Query.

Why do so many people insist upon pairing A&M with OU in the assorted “permanent rivals” discussions, as if there is some long history with them?

We shared a conference with them for a mere decade and a half. To be honest, they mean absolutely nothing to me.

Thoughts?

It is baffling. the folks over at TA are saying they have heard from insiders that it is most likely LSU, MSSt and tu.

Probably because we were both in the big 12 and nobody realizes that the big 12 hasnt been around very long and we didnt play them much before that. They just arent doing the homework and figure we would be back to playing some sort of old rival.

If it is 4 team pods i'd take: tu, arky, and either lsu or one of the mississippi schools. Pass on ou and mizzou even though we have history with them.

Mainly because OU has nothing going rivalry-wise in the expanded SEC once you get past Texas. OU doesn't have a 2nd rival, much less a third to play every year.

Plus all of our "rivalries" have other teams that could fill the gap if you take us out of the equation. Texas is the only one without a comparable substitute for us, but LSU could find a 3rd school and Arkansas probably could too.

I think that's why we get paired with OU in a lot of these hypothetical.
