I’m watching the Elway to Marino 30 for 30 and a lifelong Dolphin fan. Marino obviously is my favorite QB of all time and loved watching him throw it to the Marks brothers.

I remember Mark Duper went to Northwestern State in Louisiana. Do y’all remember why he didn’t go to LSU? He was a track guy, so had D1 speed. Was it due to his size or academics? Or just one of those recruiting stories where a kid slips through the cracks?

A bit before my time but usually guys like that in that era didn’t qualify or had some kind discipline problem. And of course some just plain fell through the cracks.

I do not know the real answer. I think Mark would have been in the '78 class out of HS. No doubt we whiffed.

That said, we had a pretty good receiver corps in Carlos Carson, Tracy Porter, Lionel Wallis, and Orlando McDaniel.

Some potential reasons (not saying any of these were 'it'):
- Grades
- Height (he wasn't tall)
- Maybe he improved a lot after HS.
- Something as petty as our recruiter for his area didn't like his HS coach

I was at NLU about the same time Duper was at Northwestern. I don't know the whole story. However, I think Duper was more of a track guy to begin with even at Northwestern.

They had some really talented guys through there at that time. I believe they won the NCAA 400M Relay one year. I think that relay had Duper, Joe Delaney, a rookie of the year RB with the Chiefs before he drowned (from Haughton), a guy named Victor Oatis (Winnsboro) who also played a little NFL wide receiver (Vikings as I recall), and I believe a kid from Airline in Bossier City. It has been a long time, but I think I have my facts straight.
