Several things:
Oklahoma has the most level III ecoregions in the lower 48 besides California (tied with Texas for second) so we can put the "flat and boring" to rest other than to say that unfortunately, the few"flat and boring" level III ecosystems ae the biggest ones. LOL.
Three of the five tribes in Oklahoma were split during the war (Chickasaw and Choctaw were confederate) but at one time all five of them signed treaties with the confederacy.
The "TV market" issue isn't one. Oklahoma is one of the most watched teams in the country... with about 80% of the TV audience rooting for OU to lose.
The eastern part of the state which is the part that is southern and fits in seamlessly with the SEC. Already a lot of Pig fans in eastern Oklahoma.
And finally, Kudzu made it to Oklahoma about 50 years ago and has been spreading across the state sense. That alone ought to qualify Oklahoma for membership.
