Is he saying this hire was intentionally done to find someone not wanted by the fans so they could show their authority over the fanbase?

I think he's a 60+ year old idiot who didn't realize the Zoom was PUBLIC ...
It was an inept statement for a program that needs to fill the arena and stop going hat in hand to boosters to solve basketball revenue woes.

I get that. I think that is why it is an honest statement. It reads like they wanted all the fans to know they will never hire someone the fans call for.
