Like most newspapers, it’s in a death spiral. Starting next month they are eliminating the Saturday print edition. No Tuscaloosa News on game day this fall. Last fall they stopped including the game day football roster. Not sure if it’s laziness, short sightedness or strategic cost savings. Just a few short years ago they had dedicated reporters covering each of the winter/spring sports. Now, not even a wire story on Bama-Texas. It’s sad to witness the slow demise of something that use to hold a special place in Bama Athletics.

It should embarrass the people running the place to not have one word about our undefeated team playing the #1 team in the country! I could tolerate (barely) nothing about a game with Shelton State, but not even acknowledging that were playing the #1 team is just sorry, 3rd rate, newspaper business, and the town/campus deserves better!

USA Today (parent company of the Tuscaloosa News) posted this six-sentence ‘write up’ within the last minute. Notice the sentence on Dylan Ray comes before the sentence on Garrett McMillan. Think he even watched the game?

Alabama baseball can't get it done against No. 1 Texas; Tide loses 1-0

Alabama baseball fought hard against the No. 1-ranked team in the nation on Friday night in its first matchup of the three-game series against the Texas Longhorns.

The only run scored in the game came from a wild pitch off the hand of Alabama reliever Dylan Ray in the bottom of the 7th, who was fresh off the bench to take his spot on the mound.

Garrett McMillan got the nod to start for the Crimson Tide on the mound on Friday night, and he did not disappoint after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing just three hits and two walks through 84 pitches.

The Crimson Tide had several opportunities to put runs on the board in this one, including a bases loaded situation at the top of of the 8th inning. Unfortunately, Alabama couldn’t capitalize and drops Game 1 in Austin.

The Tide will try again on Saturday night in Game 2 of this highly-anticipated series.

Contrast that with the write up from the local radio station Tide 100.9:

Alabama Pitching Keeps it Close in Loss to the Longhorns

After a long pitching battle in the windy weather between the Tide and Texas's two starters, the No. 1 Longhorns came out on top after putting up a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Texas earned its lone run against Alabama reliever Dylan Ray. Ray gave up a single to Texas third baseman Skyler Messinger and hit shortstop Trey Faltine with a pitch. A passed ball and a wild pitch that followed allowed the Longhorn runner to score before Ray was able to get out of the inning.

Ray completed two innings giving up the one run, the one hit by pitch, and two hits and striking out four batters.

When asked about the game, coach Brad Bohannon still seemed happy with the effort his team gave and its ability to go toe to toe with the top ranked team.

"I was really pleased with the way our kids competed tonight against the No. 1 team in the country. Garrett McMillan gave us a great start. It was very difficult for both teams to hit in these weather conditions. We had our chances, but their pitchers made some great pitches in key moments," said Bohannon.

Alabama junior starter Garrett McMillan came out strong in his second appearance and pitched six innings of zero-run baseball against Texas, giving up three hits, two walks, and earning three strikeouts on 87 pitches.

Left fielder Tommy Seidl had two hits on the day coming early in the game and accounted for two of the 12 runners the Crimson Tide left on base. Alabama loaded the bases twice in the game with two outs but came up short both times at the plate.

Texas starter Pete Hansen put up five innings of zero run ball against the Bama hitters before three Texas relievers came in and sealed the game for the Longhorns.

Alabama finished the day with seven hits and four walks and struck out 11 times, but ultimately couldn't plate any of its runners to gain the advantage in a close first game over Texas. The Crimson Tide will have Antoine Jean stepping onto the mound as it goes up against the Longhorns a second time at 1:30 p.m.

Day TWO and not a word!
I wonder if the Tuscaloosa News will have a little blurb on Monday about how the Bama/#1 Texas baseball series came out?
This is totally unacceptable!
Hell, they didn't mention the ladies softball scores either!
