UF's swimming and gymnastics facilities are subpar but recruiting classes are excellent, just wondering. I know the coaching staffs are top. IMO, it shows that top facilities are overrated and coaching and relationships are still more important.

And the facilities will probably remain subpar until it starts hurting the programs.
The Big 3 in FL had great success on shoestring budgets so they felt no need to spend. Now we're playing catch-up.

People are apathetic about the current state of the basketball program. At Florida, the expectation for our basketball program has been tournament runs/ sweet 16 appearances. Unlike Arky, we’ve been to 5 final fours over the last 2 decades and a couple natties so the fanbase doesn’t give a shite about mediocre results of the last few years and a win over Auburn won’t change that. People know this team sucked regardless and change is needed.

So basically you're Arkansas after Nolan Richardson. Except Arkansas still managed to be top 10-15 in the country in attendance, even in the down years. Florida couldn't crack the top 30 in attendance while winning back-to-back national championships...

You do realize our arena only held 12k then, right?

Florida fans are fairly jaded when it comes to anything other than football.

It's not just UF fans. Look at other schools like FSU and Miami. They have difficulty filling up the stands even for football. Look at the Marlins, and the Heat when they all had championship level teams. They couldn't sell out arenas when winning titles. Now of course there's much more to do in Florida but I believe a lot has to do with the economy. Florida has some of the lowest paying jobs in the country. There's not a lot of technology or high paying jobs. There's a lot of retirees that are on fixed budgets. I knew students who stayed on campus during some holidays because they couldn't afford to go home. Those kids are not traveling to Mississippi or Kentucky for a weekday basketball game.

How many wealthy alumni have gone to these schools or are from Florida? Ben Hill Griffin was an orange juice guy. Sonny Tillman made BBQ. They can't compete with Texas A&M oil alumni.

FL is 34th in household income. Not great but not bad.
Bigger issue is so many people are transplants.

Florida's basketball arena should have been wild last night. They were desparate and coming off a gigantic win over Auburn, but the atmosphere against a ranked Arkansas team that hadn't won there in 27 yrs was quite underwhelming.

Mike white has sucked all the life out of that program and fan interest could not be lower.

The state of Florida is also pretty poor. All schools have struggled upgrading facilities. Florida fans don’t travel well because there’s not a lot of money in the state. Sad but true.

What?

It's one of the wealthiest states in the country and the 2nd wealthiest in the SEC (behind Texas)

Yes, the transplants really hurt the professional teams because most of them are fans of other teams. But Kids at colleges in Florida do not have the disposable income that other students do.

Basketball has been a problem for awhile but baseball facilities are great. Even the old stadium was nice.

HUH? Florida has a few very wealthy people but the state is very poor. Like someone said the State is ranked actually 35th in poverty. The state and local governments are also very poor. There's not much money for infrastructure. Florida attracts a lot of transient people. The average standard of living is very poor. A state like MS or LA may have lower incomes but the standard of living is higher.

LOL

Florida ranks 4th in GDP and there's absolutely zero possibility that MS or LA have higher standards of living

I’ve heard the Fla state legislature doesn’t like spending on upgrades at state universities. So you get run down classrooms, aging dorms and crappy looking campuses

They have thé 5th highest revenue un thé country. LINK

Money isnt thé issue and I have no clue thé expenditures on state colleges.

Once again,Florida isn't a poor state by any measure.
