It's a bit odd that only one of our top 13 or so recruits is from the state of Georgia.

Kirby takes a national approach because he can. Generally speaking, obviously the other 49 states are more talent rich than one state. Some years the state of Georgia cycles up and we may miss on some of those guys because their coach says bad stuff about us because they’re offended we didn’t take a guy from their school previously. That’s a big part of the Gwinnett county especially Grayson issue from what I’ve heard. Years ago we took an out of state kid that we valued higher at the same position as a Grayson kid so their whole staff got butthurt and steers them away.

Unfortunately the days are mostly gone of a kid loving the Dawgs growing up and staying home just because of that and such. Georgia is also a very transient state, particularly the greater Atlanta area. Loyalties lie all over the place. I mean we could sign a kid from Buford, Tucker, GAC, and Waycross and statistically, I’d make more money wagering that the kid from Waycross is more likely to have lived in Georgia most of his life. Just the way it is now.

It's not that they aren't getting offers from Kirby.

The only one that really stung was losing out on Verron Haynes kid. Some recruiting staffer hit on Justice's step mom so he switched to Bama.

Yep, I have the same concern.
Two of the nine 5 star players in Bama's 2023 recruiting class were from our state: Safety, Caleb Downs and RB, Justice Haynes.
