Chuck's is great. Avenue Pub is really solid. I really enjoy Southern Ale House, but it's not downtown like the others.
Heat Pizza if you want pizza. They have some great pies and the drinks are good too.

Love Heat, but he seemed to be favoring some “fancier” places by mentioning River and Cypress Inn.
