Alabama hired Joe Cox as their TE coach.

Alabama is definitely on the decline!

Aladamnbama hired ole noodle arm joe, let’s just hope he coaches like he threw

Ummm. Joe's arm was fine.
He was a 7 on 7 warrior. He could torch a defense.
His problem was putting a defender in his face. He would implode with any stress in the pocket.

I get it. He was Bauta bad when he felt pressure. But he was Murray good when given a clean pocket.
It is easy to forget how good he was in a 7 on 7 setting.

games aren't played in 7v7 camps lol
Cox gets a bad wrap from our fans for seemingly 1)not being as as the QBs he was sandwiched between (stafford anbd murray) 2)playing on a team that had a bad season. He didn't light the world on fire but he was not bad for us by any means. 56%, 2600 yards, 24 touchdowns is fairly decent. And of course he came in off the bench in the 4th to literally win the colorado game for us in 06 so there's that.

It is called a highlight reel for a reason. They are out there. And he was sitting in a clean pocket for all of it (which is my point).

That is exactly my point. Cox's armstrength was more than fine. Throw against air. Throw with no pass rush, he had practices where the ball never hit the ground.
His issues were turning bad plays into disasters.
Years of watching QB film room behind stafford made things worse. Diagnosing all of the things matt could do to get out of jams were the wrong mental reps for cox. When it was his turn, he always tried to do too much and hurt the team. At least that is my theory why cox was so jekyl/hyde.

His arm was average. Not a noodle arm by any means. He lacked mobility and wasn’t a huge threat to buy time to work through progressions. He could end up being a great coach.

it still kills me that THIS was who we had throwing to AJ Green.
to be fair i seem to remember most of his throws were to Orson Charles and Aron White that year when they werent' to AJ.
not sure what else qualifies him to coach TEs

yeah it is kind of a bummer. We obviously expected stafford to leave early so we would've known since 06 to prepare. In 07 we signed Logan Gray who was a 4* and a top 5 dual threat in america. The next year we didn't sign a QB which was a major gaffe. In 09 we signed Murray and Mett who were btoh highly thought of. Logan Gray not panning out and having no body in 08 is what really sunk us in 09. Murray was balling out and pushing to start but got arm issues in fall and had to redshirt. Mett had physical potential but was nowhere near ready to be an SEC starter in 2009. So we pretty much had Cox left by default. And all things considered he didn't do too bad.

Both were redshirting regardless.

Stats were decent.
Cox finished the year with what was the 2nd most passing TDs in a season at the time. 3rd best passing efficiency rating (career) by a UGA QB at the time. 4th most passing yards by a senior at the time.
Cox had a lot of issues.
But he had little to no rushing support. And it was a very young OL.

I disagree. He was one of the best punt fair-catchers in school history.

Doesn't count. He only RETURNED punts. Fair catching is a lost art.
