I still think we are looking for a WR via portal. But I still think a trio of Hall/Holden/Brooks can be very good. Especially with Gibbs and Jase to catch it as the safety valve

I didn't quite realize how terrible his season was. Those numbers in an offense as good as ours are indefensible. His catch rate alone signals that he either ran the routes wrong, gave up on them, didn't compete for catches, etc, because it is drastically lower than every other receiver/back/tight end on the roster with the same QB.

Nor did I. I'm hard-pressed to think of another Alabama player who regressed so badly from one year to the next (barring injury).

It's a cliche on this board at times, but I really believe he cost himself several million dollars this year, unless he just tears it up at Texas in 2022. I'm curious what caused him to basically stop trying.

He quite literally went from being a Top 50-60 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to being one of the 20 worst tight ends in college football......on a team that was a Top 5 passing offense and had the Heisman Trophy winner at QB.

That's..........I mean that's just hard to figure out.

Sad part is we had to play him, since we were a little thin at experience at the position. The lack of effort was apparent, however, but just not sure we could change our offense mid season.

Am I missing something or does this not add up?

I have no clue how QBR is calculated, but I think the overall number of snaps might play a role. He wasn't featured until very late in the season.

Averaged 11.4 yards a catch and only 1 of his 21 catches were tds. That'll lead to a poor rating

Catches a lot of passes for short gains. Almost no explosive stuff.

Billingsley was an absolute black hole of terrible. Possibly the worst season of any skill player on a Saban team going back a decade.

That said, the coaches saw his lack of effort and execution in all phases all season and yet he was still out there. Someone should answer for that.

Can’t tell me the offense wouldn’t have been better off with a pure WR, a second back, another OL to help our OTs or just Latu if the situation truly required a TE.

A TE who doesn’t block isn’t a TE, they are a WR.

A TE who doesn’t block or stretch the field effectively limits the effectiveness of the entire offense by removing something the DC has to account for every down one way or the other.
