how much could we really expect out of the second string qb that is apparently going to be 2nd or 3rd string at auburn who has a pretty crappy QB situation?

I don't expect any more out of Calzada than what he showed us.

I expect a hell of a lot more out of Jimbo. Whether that's better recruiting, better development, or at least taking a QB transfer/true QB recruit to ensure you have more than 2 guys available at the position, it was a situation completely of Jimbo's making. And other coaches around the nation are relying on backup qbs/walkon QBs without their own offense tanking, so I don't really have much sympathy for Jimbo concerning that.

The reality is that, unless you’ve got a stud freshman/RS freshman as a backup QB who can actually play, really nobody has quality P5 QBs sitting on the bench anymore. No quality players at that position hang around more than two years without being named the starter anymore. For perspective Max Johnson is about as good as you can hope for in terms of an upperclassman at backup QB.

These days when starters get hurt, it’s usually a dumpster fire. It’s hard to fault Jimbo specifically for something that all coaches deal with now.
