Interesting things about Michigan

Michigan likes to go run heavy when they can but they do lead the nation in explosive plays of 50+ yards.
(Not to sound SEC-biased but that seems like an easier feat in the Big 10 where you have Ohio State and Penn State and then...who else successfully recruiting at a high level???)
Michigan likes using a two quarterback system - they mostly use Cade McNamara but mix it up with a 5-star freshman (J.J. McCarthy) who has been impressive. That was a problem for some of their opponents but not seeing it as much of a factor against UGA.
Michigan likes the physical run game as well as crossing routes, etc. Not so much sheer speed over the top. Maybe I'm thinking of when we played Wisconsin way back when, but that team was supposed to be so physical on offense and strong on defense. It turned out that they were slow by SEC standards.
Michigan's DE (Hutchinson) has 14 sacks and is a high 1st round guy but: When have we last faced an opponent that had a superstar defensive player - especially a pass rusher - who significantly affected the game? (I could be forgetting an example)
From an overall depth of talent standpoint, UGA ranks #2 nationally in the last 4 years recruiting rankings of all teams. Michigan is at #10. Definitely respectable - Harbaugh has pulled them up - but there's probably some difference in overall talent.
(Of course, Ohio State is #5 in these same rankings and lost to UM, so likely anybody up at that top 10 to 12 level of recruiting is going to have a lot of good players).
Not sure why but I don't feel as concerned about Michigan...possibly it's an outdated view of SEC as vastly superior. Maybe I should be more worried?

I listened to the Mel Kiper and he said we have 18 draft eligible players with NFL grades compared to 7 for Michigan. He thinks we by 3+ TD's.
Take it for what it's worth but he obviously thinks there's a pretty big talent gap.

I don't believe we're 3 touchdown better. I think we win by 10-14 points.

if people had asked for predictions on this game on December 1st most people would pick us to win like 38-10 or something like that. The only reason people are halfway worried is bc of how we looked in the last game, in which we completely changed our entire defensive gameplan from the rest of the year. Not to mention bama is far better than michigan.
I'm not worried about them because we have no reason to be worried about them. It was obvious back in october that alabama is the only team in the country that is on our level and I don't think anything has changed in that regard.

Ohio State had a pretty big talent gap over Michigan too. After 3 and 4 years of player development star rating is obsolete.

It is? So you can't develop or
"coach up" a 4 star or 5 star?
BTW he also said he's never seen a defense with so many players with a NFL draft grade.

The usual SEC-hating suspects are all over the bowl halftime shows claiming, "THIS Michigan team has SEC toughness AND speed".
Is this true? Only game I've watched from Michigan is the tail end of the OSU game. I have no clue if that statement is true, but I did wonder if this was pundits just trying to get more viewers for the Semis.

Well the coverage all week is either talking about how awesome Bama is or how awesome Michigan is….with a constant reminder of how bad we sucked against Alabama.

I think Michigan is getting some hype because they finally got over the hump against Ohio State and Jim Harbaugh ("Captain Comeback") always draws some media attention. There are some articles out saying that if he wins the next couple of games, he'll be the "it" guy again and that the Chicago Bears will be trying to get him to help dig them out of their current disaster of an NFL team.
Personally, I think Michigan is being over-hyped and UGA is being somewhat underrated due to the SECCG.
Then again, I didn't expect the SECCG to go as it did. I thought Alabama was down this year. With them having given up something like 36 sacks and with a weak running game all season, I was confident in a UGA win. Clearly we hadn't been tested and they were better than they had looked at times during the regular season.
So I'm not sure what to expect with Michigan, other than that I expect we can deal with a run-heavy team better than a team with a Heisman QB throwing to elite WRs.
