Read on the rant that Jimbo had 20 players or so opt out of the bowl game and now the program is just using Wuhan Virus to get out of getting his arse kicked in the Gator Bowl and going 8-5.
This is basically what TCU did last year to back out of the Texas Bowl, if I recall.

It's not surprising coming from A&M, they don't have a QB to play with Calzada in the portal.

Post season college football really needs to be fixed if we’re going to have entire teams opting out of decent bowl games

If you can’t field a team due to opt outs, then you opt out the bowl bounty from the other teams split too.
