I haven't seen much of Bediako so maybe I'm missing something offensively.

He's a 7 footer who moves like a wing, catches everything and finishes at the rim.

The rest of his game is pretty raw still, but that alone creates an entirely new dynamic on how you can approach guarding his screens at the top of the key. We destroyed Houston and Gonzaga with different variations of it, and Houston is an elite defensive team.

He's good defensively. When people say post presence they're usually talking about the offensive end of the court. A guy you can throw the ball to in the post and he can get a basket or create for a teammate.

1x loser to Iona

Iona is coached by Rick Pitino, made the tourney last year and is currently 9-2 and #103 in the KenPom...not a terrible loss considering UA shot about 40% from the FT line that game.

SOG, can’t remember where I found this (it may have been posted here), but I’m going to tuck it in here anyway.

Breakdown of how Nate Oats manipulated Houston’s coverage against ball screen offense (Twitter video)

Yea I think it was in the basketball thread yesterday. Pretty incredible stuff. Another example of why Oats to the NBA scares me more than any college job other than Michigan State. Showing certain looks early and then pocketing variations for late game situations to get easy looks like that is NBA Playoff stuff.

Obviously Shack had to make the shots, but you can argue that 2 possession sequence won the game. It certainly changed the trajectory of the game from us battling back to them having to battle from behind.

I agree. Thought we were in trouble right at that moment too, sandwiched by the Bediako and Gurley fouls.

Totally different finish without those two shots, IMO.

Alabama hasn't played any Q4 teams. Auburn has played four.

Add another one for tonight's Auburn game against the mighty North Alabama squad.

Oats in the NBA is a worse fit than Saban in the NFL. His high energy in your face style will not be well received by spoiled millionaires.

His personality is fine for the NBA. He's very much a player's coach. The reason he'd probably be a flop in the NBA is that he never played or coached professionally, much less in the NBA, and generally speaking NBA players tune those guys out. It's a big reason why Beilein was an epic disaster.
