Hmmm, interesting question for sure. May take a bit. Most will probably go with a favorite. But best based on what? Team wins and losses? Defensive rankings? Or post college success for the players.

Aranda had some really good ones but not sure if the the length was sufficient. Who was fsu’s in the 90s?

I wasn't really thinking of any particular metrics because obviously there's so many variables. Just wanted people's thoughts on who they thought and the reason. I really have no idea.

Difficult to quantify. For all the "3rd and Chavis" memes we have, he fielded a lot of great defenses over many years. Feels like any great DC eventually became a HC like Muschamp.

I remember Mickey wanted the Bama head coaching job bad when it was open at one point in time. Can't remember exactly when it was. Maybe when they hired Gene Stallings?

Bill Oliver was great no doubt. But I wonder how much his success was due to Gene Stallings. I remember when Oliver left Bama's defenses became more aggressive. I think if Stallings wasn't the head coach I'd have to go with him as greatest defensive coordinator because his teams just won on defense because Stallings sure didn't like to open his offense up.

Ken Donahue - 20 years at Bama. Schemes still used at many colleges and NFL.
