How much would you contribute to an NIL 'nonprofit' group?

You know this is a thing now that every major program/state will have to funnel players. I can see numerous 501c3 foundations popping up, and many of them will be scams to take your money, but many will also be legit.
I figure at least some will appeal directly to the average Joe football fan in each state. Just set up a GoFundMe/crowdsource account and solicit small $10-$500 donations from the general public, much like a political campaign fund does, and watch the money roll in.
The smart ones will use the very same tactics as well. Four hundred Panic emails per day about the end of the program approaching if you don't donate, and the like. Fan rallies, dinners, and auctions. Justin Moore concerts. John Daly "charitable" golf tornaments. Jerry Jones VIP meet and greets. It's all there and all that money Will go directly into buying players, which are much more effective than shiny suites and corporate sponsorship signage at a ballgame.
This shite is going to get wild and the most most passionate fanbases will really separate themselves.
And most of all, every donor is basically an owner of the team (the roster payroll anyway), and that shite just gets some people going.
Big sack... "I helped buy him!"
It's like the green bay packers "owners," except you get a lot more than a piece of paper. You get a 5* Linebacker in your school colors instead!

If we could get a 5* LB, I’d easily double my donation amount with half going to the group.

And that's what the University is terrified of, too. They're about to see their golden goose of donations die.
If, like you said, just half of everyone's donations went directly to buying players, all legal, it's a nightmare for the AD, who really only care about the bottom line and nothing else.

quote:While likely some validity, this doesn't account for the facts. First the Universities/Athletic Departments still control the venues, and butts in the seats. So from that perspective, they are still in a position for continued extortion. Second, they still control the branding. So in an ad with a NIL player "XX QB for University of XX" would infringe on that branding (probable end up in court), and if you drop that, then the ad becomes much less effective. So the Universities are then in a position to in essence "tax" the NIL organization. Lastly, since now it's all above board, then IRS/State will be in a position to tax all this income one way or another. While this won't help the bottom line directly, it will have an impact in how things must be carried out.

I don't know the final, nor advocating for any position, just stating there are additional complications. Going to be the Wild Wild West for a while.

I hope someone with Arkansas's best interest is organizing this NOW. Other schools are and we'll be falling behind if we're not. I am interested in contributing but I'm not aware of any attempt to organize.

My understanding is s lot of the team was purchasing vehicles with their stipends and some were making 6 figures already

Yeah I’ve seen other places where it’s been mentioned that we have a handful of guys in 6 figures somehow. I’m hoping we’re paying market rate for high level player and just not advertising it because it’s probably being done shadily.
