Soccer is popular enough at larger high schools in the South, but it still hasn’t filtered down to the others to become the de facto fourth most popular sport in the general population.

The South just doesn’t produce enough talent to make it worthwhile.

Clemson has 2 national titles in it and is playing in the final 4 in Raleigh this Friday against ND.

If SEC competed in the sport, perhaps it is a SEC school rather than Clemson.

Across the country soccer is 4th in population in HS but only 150k behind football which is 2nd in participation. But remember many of the top level players in HS do not play HS and in many cases especially with the National Academy a few years ago were not allowed to participate. Not to mention the elite, especially on the men's side by HS are signing overseas to play pro.

Not even close to being true.

Texas, GA, FL, and NC are some of the top states in the country for for both boys and girls soccer. Mizzou I read is one of the top 10 for producing pro players.
