Who will be the final West Champion?

While anything can happen, it’s CFB after all, I think UGA is the safe assumption for East champ.
But I honestly have no idea how the west pans out. What’s everyone’s honest take on who wins the west?

Bama. Until they start to show some real decline, I think you have to pick them.

Not Ole Miss or 4&8, but everyone else has a darkhorse chance..

I'd like to hear the rationale if you can provide such

That’s the logical assumption and that’s how I felt last year especially since I thought Kelly would have a rough first year, but I’ll admit I was wrong there.

One year does not make a trend.

Not saying it does. But there are a lot of question marks for Bama right now, so I am having trouble just defaulting them in.

But it is a trend. On average, Brian Kelly loses 4 games a year.

You have both never been, good enough rationale for me..

LSU. Won it last year & return Daniels. I think he’s going to be very good this year. Bama takes one small step back losing BY & Anderson.

Saying "we're back" every damn year.... doesn't make it so.

legit contenders:
Alabama- tons of talent, Saban factor.
LSU- defending champ, returns the QB and a lot more starters.
A&M (yes, really)- solid talent level, young QB might take the next step, rebound after last year
wildcards:
Ole Miss- Lane being a wild man, Judkins returns
Arkansas- KJ and Rocket
nah:
Auburn- too early in Freeze's rebuild (although there's Auburn's history of coming out of nowhere)
Miss State- post-Leach
East, for the sake of discussion:
Georgia- massive talent stockpile and Kirby has Sabanesque momentum
Tennessee- might be a mirage, but Heupel's offense is dangerous
Florida- year 2 might be the key for Billyball. Good running game, has SEC talent almost everywhere
South Carolina- did they turn the corner, or was the end of last year just a hot streak?
Kentucky- Stoops has turned the Wildcats into a solid team that you have to actively beat
Mizzou- seemed to have a decent defense,
Vandy

State fans desperately cling to that '98 West championship like it's something special.
That was, undoubtedly, the weakest SEC West in history. Only one SEC West team finished ranked and no team won ten games. Auburn and LSU finished with losing records and State could only muster eight wins. State also benefited from playing a 1-10 South Carolina team and lost their other two games against SEC East opponents State was blown out a few times that year too, including a three-score loss to an Oklahoma State team that finished 5-6 and a 41-6 bludgeoning by an LSU team that finished 4-7.
But congrats on your championship though State bros!

So you're saying that the team that wins the West every year doesn't benefit from other teams having down years??

If you follow college football there are not a lot of questions for ALABAMA to answer as far as talent is concerned. Other than QB, and every SEC team that is starting a newbie will be answering the same question whether you like to say it or not. And frankly, any other position that is offering new talent.
BAMA is going back to the "Joyless Murderball" that our football fans know so well and the SEC hates so much. The burden this season is on the team and not just a few soldiers. That is a lot of 4 and 5 stars back in charge.

Our OG posters came back, so it's gonna be a fun season regardless

Some years the conference or division is down, some years it’s up.
Carolina won the East in a year where we were the only team that ended ranked in the East. That same year every team but ole miss ended ranked in the west. We’re still the East champ that year nonetheless.
Then in 2011 SC ended up second behind UGA who we had a head to head win against and the better overall record but not conference record. Point being strength of the conference/division always has an effect for better or worse.

No, I did not say that.
What I said was State's '98 West championship isn't the major success y'all trumpet it to be on here because (a) the division was the weakest in history and (b) y'all were only a slightly above average, 8-5 team who was blown out in multiple games.

It's too late for that. Bama, Saban, and the game have changed.
