Let's say 5 years from now

Football- Gus is 45-22 after 5 years. I think Gus is a lock to at least win 8-9 games a year that's 45 more wins. Probably makes the the SEC CG at least 1 more time.

Basketball- impossible to say

Baseball- Thompson is 60-59 after two years of a rebulid was 1 pitch from hosting a super regional and just had a top 5 recruiting class

I think I would go baseball

Why on earth would you even include Basketball in this thread if it’s impossible to say?

Just compare Baseball to Football and be done with it

Stiff competition in baseball. There's not a program in our conference that couldn't be great and we have 8 teams ranked heading into this year.. And we aren't one of them with 4 returning infielders and an All-American in the weekend rotation.

I definitely wouldn't put any money on baseball's success despite my faith in Butch

Got to define what is successful for basketball

Most likely to .....

-Outperform historical AU avg for sport?

Basketball easy

-Make meaningful postseason play?

Basketball or baseball

-do something worth hanging a banner?

Basketball... maybe baseball

-Most likely to win the conference?

Toss up, probably football in any normal year though

We only have 3 returning infielders.

I think the biggest issue Auburn had in baseball and basketball as well is name recognition.

I believe Auburn is a top 25 baseball team but it takes decades of sustained success to change the predetermined minds if people 2000 miles away.

Football.
Basketball.
Baseball

in that order. I think baseball has a good chance of being consistently good under Butch.

I assume we're including like "NCAA Tournament, 2nd round" in the banner hanging, otherwise I definitely think it's still football.

I always thought the women's volleyball and tennis team were hot.

So, how are we judging success?

Basketball by far, although it depends on who’s coaching the football team in 5 years

False. We return 4/5 starters with catcher the only turnover.

Ingram
Holland
Jarvis
Anthony
Estes
Davis

We literally return almost everyone that started a game on the infield last year. Can you really count DRob if he played seemingly half the year in RF?

Estes will play RF. So I'm not counting him. Jarvis basically lost his job before we started putting Estes in the outfield.

If you want to count guys that started some games in the infield then you are correct.

Our infield will be stout this year. As will starting pitching. Our bats should be upper middle of the pack conference wise.

Where we are going to struggle is:
Catching - Williams isn't used to the amount of innings he will have to catch. I'm not convinced Rojas is capable of playing at this level.
Defensive outfield - we only have 6 OF and 2 are first basemen (C. Davis and Morgan) and the other (Estes) is really a middle infielder.
Bullpen - we finally have some arms (13) but only 5 have experience from last year. I'm glad we have a few more Lefty's to chose from.
Speed - we are a relatively slow team this year. I look for triples to be non existent this year. Steals and doubles should be down as well.

We definitely needed some lefty depth so that's exciting.

I'd expect triples to be down but I don't believe we'll see a decline in doubles because of speed. We might see a decline in doubles due to the absence of Todd and DRob though

Perhaps not with doubles. We should have slightly more pop than last year.
