I still never gave a number so you're arguing with the sky. I suggested offering DJ a short contract with incentives. His only option would to be paid less elsewhere. You, on the other hand, wants to throw money at a proven coach who already has a big contract.

Kelly’s resume obviously is long and impressive, but he has coached a total of 8 games as a head coach. I don’t like that.

Idiot you are responding to the contract length that I told you doesn't happen and literally showed it to you

Prove to me in SEC college football programs use your contract structure or stfu

worry with Sumrall is that we end up with Sunbelt Billy 2.0 but I suppose there is really no way to know without actually hiring the guy

That's definitely the risk. But yeah, there is no sure thing out there. A guy like Key has only had really good success this year for example, and the success he is having is with a sixth year QB, so it's hard to say how he'll do after. Dilly kinda has the same concerns with the one good year.

All you can do is make a solid hire and be ready to do it again in 3-4 years if they aren't working out.

Done.

Cignetti was a six-year deal worth a total of $27 million, averaging $4.5 million per year.

You lose.

So you now think 6 years is a short contract?

When did Cignetti coach in the SEC?

I think he is wrong. If Sumerall is the choice DJ aint sticking around.

If Kelly is the guy then DJD might stick around but I doubt it.
I have serious doubts that we keep Durkin regardless of who is hired. Whole bunch of school are about to hire, and the new HC will go looking for the best staff he can get. If Durkin feels slighted, he'll jump. He's arguably a top 3 DC right now. He will be in demand. Our PTB had better wrap their head around that, or we lose him and probably a bunch of defensive players.

Charles Kelly would be third place at the moment and his ability to put a top end staff together is what is getting his name mentioned. Plus he played for Coach Dye and is extremely well thought of.

I have nothing against Kelly, but this is sad if he becomes coach. We are going to hire a guy who was 58 when he got his first HC job? Really?

Is there a specific reason Sumrall wouldn't want to keep DJ, or is that just how people are feeling? If he's campaigning as diligently as has been suggested, it seems like he'd be open to suggestions.

I don't think Durkin would choose to work with him. Not because it's personal (I doubt they even know each other well, if at all), but because it kinda sucks having some young guy come in and take your spot.

Maybe I am wrong and Durkin would have no problem with it, but if I were Durkin it would sting.

1. Sumrall

2. Dillingham

3. Durkin (I’d have balked a week ago, but I’m warming quickly, based on the way the players respond to him)

I could get behind Key or Drink. I don’t know anything at all about the guy from Louisville, but I’d keep an open mind.

I’m a hard pass on Kelly. Might as well hire Jimbo, IMHO. Hell, at least Fisher has been a HC in the SEC. Also, isn’t Kelly in his 60s? He has “pension plan job” written all over him. The others on this list are much younger and hungrier. Anyone on the list but Kelly. We can’t afford to hire another guy who isn’t coming here to work.

The original parameters were:

quote:

What I’m hearing (coaching search)

You changed it to:

So, to continue your game, Annett signed a 4 year contract for $3 million a year at Miss State. He was a coordinator that was elevated to HC in the SEC. His lack of success had nothing to do with his contract. He accepted because 3 million a year was a shite ton more than he would have made otherwise.

You lose again.

Only a retard can claim to want short contracts and then cheerlead Cignetti's 6 year contract anyways.
