My whole argument is that if Wooten chooses not to play ball, Auburn should choose not to honor his scholarship.

Wooten is taking a redshirt. Are you in favor of not honoring all scholarships for redshirt players?

The season is going to be cancelled, I dont see it happening at this time. Was listening to one of the shows on SiriusXM and they were hinting at a couple of schools voting this week to next to cancel the season. They said schools will not want to take the lawsuit risk if anyone gets sick.

It shouldn't be Wooten's choice to take a redshirt and sit out. That should be up to Malzahn.

Are you of the opinion that Malzahn didn't approve or deny his ability to use the redshirt?

By your logic, if a player gets hurt in a non-football activity and has to take a medical redshirt, the team should not have to honor his redshirt? I mean, Malzahn didn't get to choose whether or not the player sits out, right?

I think it was a mutual agreement. Sure, Malzahn could have said no, and given that scholarship to someone else, but it would have been a PR nightmare when the media AND the school got wind that a player expecting their first child was not allowed to keep his scholarship, even though this health crisis was NOT his doing or his coaches.

You are for some reason looking at this so narrow. I'm not sure how you can not look at the extenuating circumstances in so many of these COVID created situations for many people across this country.

A player getting injured in an accident off the field and choosing not to play to keep yourself safe from a virus are totally different things.

What is stopping every player in the nation from saying they don't feel safe and opting out?

Would that be acceptable in the real world? Can we all not go to work and expect to still have our jobs when things get better?

Not really, in the framework of the argument you've laid forth.

Do they have a redshirt they can use that their coach approved?

Yes you can.

You are weak, man. To see this and side with Chandler Wooten is pure weakness. You aren't alone though. The coaching staff and university is weak also.

These clowns will go on strike and demand a million a year next. You weak mfers will be right here supporting them.

Interesting you are incapable of discussing this without resorting to personal attacks.

You do realize that this is an agreement between "employer" and "employee" right? It was agreed that due to the extraordinary conditions, players can choose to opt out of playing. Seems like a pretty common sense approach that both parties are okay with.

I think the virus scare is all BS and I want football just as much as everyone else, just dont see it happening. I hope it does, but I also cant fault a kid (especially with a newborn) for redshirting this year. At least he is coming back in 2021 when we should be even better. He could just skip the season and go pro like others are doing.

Yeah. Two real scenarios here. First is that there’s no season and it’s irrelevant what Wooten would have done. Second is that there’s a (diminished) season, Wooten redshirts, and we get a 5th year senior LB on what could be a very experienced defense for 2021.

I see one scenario not mattering and the other being a positive for Auburn in 2021. In terms of my opinion on his right to do this — Wooten has an avenue to redshirt and it’s under cooperation with the football program. Count me out of wanting anything do with another man’s business.

Traivon Leonard sitting out the season.

Looks like he actually has tested positive for Covid and says he has some underlying condition so who knows.

I have zero problem with our good players saving a year of eligibility and not wasting it on a season that is unlikely to be finished (assuming it actually even starts).
