We really need to keep it at 2 divisions. Let’s grab 2 more relevant teams at this point, and name one division “SEC Proper” with the currently joined charter schools, and name the other division “expansion trash”.
This.

Hell, lets do this right. Go ahead and pick up Baylor, Okie State, TCU and TX Tech. Put them, the two new interlopers, and the four expansion teams in one division, and the charter members in the other. 9 game conference schedule - you only play the other teams in your division. At the end of the season the top teams in each division (using clearly defined tiebreakers) meet in the CG.

Yeah, SCarolina will have a higher travel budget, but other than that, what’s not to like?

BREAKING: Clemson and Florida State have reached out to the SEC about joining the conference, per

PFF College @PFF_College · 6h ? @MarcRyanOnAir : The SEC is concerned that streaming numbers for Clemson+Florida State don't bring what Oklahoma+Texas do. Notre Dame is the only "free agent" left that would "add to the pot."

The second quote shines a light on what the SEC wants. They don’t give a frick if they have to draw Eugene Oregon viewers regardless of what the Sourheast Conference is supposed to represent. They just want the viewers. The real SEC died with the addition of Missouri and A&M.

What do we sacrifice for it?
We could start with Pawl Finebaum as a lead in, follow by a luncheon of BBQ'd Bevo, and for an encore throw in the midget from Tuscaloosa. ((in the spirit of conference equality))

Might be most viewed event since the total solar eclipse.

New football doesn't care about footprint, rivals, culture, pageantry or any of the things that make college football what it is and what we love. It's just a business now.

However, other then decent teams Clemson and FSU bring absolutely nothing to the table. We will be at 20 teams by 2025, possibly before. Notre Dame would be a fool to turn down an SEC offer at this point. I still think you see some teams up the east coast pursued or them reaching out. Virginia or VT, Maryland, West Virgina (cultural fit but not a big market), NC State or North Carolina would be the teams I would expect to try to make a move. If Notre Dame is pulled in that would put us at 17. I would say VT, WV and NC State are the final 3.

They are strong regional programs in football, basketball, and baseball
that easily fit within the footprint of the SEC. I don’t care about the viewers. I don’t care about adding Clemson or FSU either for that matter. But if you add anybody start with the teams already within region that can keep some sense of regional ties. The tradition and old conference should not be an inconvenience.

Yeah I mean you’re right. It just sucks. Might as well rename the conference to something lame and generic as “Conference of Legends.”

Well the way it's starting to look the SEC will get a new name. Probably like something like "college football" since that's the only conference that will really matter. I know I'm being hyperbolic but the SEC and the Big 10 add Clemson FSU Notre Dame and possibly USC Oregon and Washington and no other teams really matter in the grand scheme.

If we keep adding quality footballs teams like Clemson and FSU, is it possible the SEC could just go out on it's own and tell the NCAA buzz off?

It could secure it's own tv deal easily. Come up with it's own bylaws, etc.

I guess the problem would be those NCAA run tournaments like basketball and baseball. the SEC or whatever it would call itself would have to come up with it's own version of these.

Just pondering....
