Yeah, let us know how you are doing when you can. If you need anything, like help moving items, place to stay, etc., let me know. I am up in Parker.
Thank you very kind. Unless these winds change and push the fire back South we should be okay. This is relatively flat Forrest(meaning not mountainous) and this fire is going to be devastating.

Glad to hear things are okay on your side. At least you're moving soon

My sister (an Auburn grad) and her fam were in pre-evac status in Colorado Springs..a couple of miles northwest of the center of town. Their neighborhood started filling up with smoke last night so they went on to Denver. Good luck to you.

Yeah smoke got bad, but we closed the hatches down and stayed. The winds yesterday cleared the smoke out so that was good. Glad your sister is well and tell her War Eagle.
Thank you to you , War and Nola for the kind words.

Thread high jack - Rocky, what's a great town in CO where I can take Mrs AUCE? Something with shopping, little shops for her, and fishing, jeep riding for me. I know of the larger cities. Glad to hear your family is safe.

Estes Park, Breckenridge, Vail, Ouray. Ouray is incredible. Takes the longest to get to, but wow kind of place, well they are all really wow, but Ouray is a top one for me. By the way you would pass Breckenridge (the exit to get there anyway), vail and a couple of other nice spots to get to Ouray.
Breckenridge, Estes Park and Vail will be the easiest to get to. Estes Park also put's you close to the Rocky Mountain National Park.
Granby is really nice too and not far from Winter Park shopping.
best shopping will be Vail, Breckenridge, Winter Park. Estes Park and Ouray is good for a little village setting.

Thank you BB.
I think we will be okay. Took the kids for a drive to some higher ground to see if I could see the burn area and the fire is actually burning in several directions with the mass part of it going Northward.
One cool thing is we ran into the 5 Helicopters with the water buckets in a waiting area. Kids loved it because all of their rotors were humming. I will try to upload pics.

Thanks. We went to Sun Valley a couple of years ago. We liked it, but you had to drive to Stanley before you got that WOW feeling.

A quick update and my final one on this.
Updated numbers
- 75 percent contained
- 483 homes considered a total loss
- 17 homes partially lost
- 14, 198 acres burned
- 2 deaths
What I have learned, our home was most threatened the first day, but fire fighters held off it's advancement going S, S/E. The winds then pushed it North through the night which was the heart of the Black Forest. It never did stop its march North. They feel the fire began due to human involvement and not nature. I will never stop being amazed at the power of a Major fire and Tornadoes. I have seen the aftermath of both and how one house is missed and many destroyed, or one house destroyed and many missed is beyond me. They showed a photo of three burned out homes and most of the vegetation surrounding them untouched. Tornadoes however are so much more unpredictable and takes more lives.
Thank you for all the kind words.

glad you made it out ok boss.
AUCE05 - Estes and Fort Collins are both great places. old town Fort Collins has good shopping, and since its right next to Colorado State University, good bars and restaurants. Estes is awesome, and home to the Stanley Motel (basis for the Steven King Novel The Shining).
