* UCLA coach Jim Mora Jr., we are told, is on Auburn's radar if not yet climbing high on the list of potential candidates. Mora, a former NFL head coach, pulled off one of the bigger turnarounds in college football this season. He led UCLA, which won just three games last season, to a 9-3 record this season. If Mora expresses serious interest, we are told, he could become a serious candidate.

Per PM, also interviews won't begin till Thursday.

People bring up Malzahn's name a lot. My question - is anyone concerned he would be too lax with players? Could he be part of the problem that our team is soft? What about discipline issues? He gave Dyer another chance at Ark State.

And something else I've been wondering which I will preempt with "I know this would never happen" BUT I saw several tweets throughout the season by Dyer about always loving AU? Any chance he tries to make it back? Bo Jackson loved him and he's on the search committee. Think Bo puts in a good word for him with the new HC?

I saw an article this morning on Gary Patterson: Article

Didn't even read the whole thing but I noticed his buyout from TCU would be 28 million dollars

But money is no object, right?

It chaps my arse his name is even being mentioned. He was part of the problem that got us where we are now in regards to these issues.

I just don't want anyone from our current and past staff on the new staff. I want a complete and fresh start.

I wouldn't think that would be an option.

Mine too. Really sorta irritating.

I question his discipline. I question his HC experience. I think his offensive success this year has to do a lot with being in a shitty conference and teams not yet adjusting to his offense which I think SEC teams were adjusting to just fine after he was at AU for a year or two. I also think he picked up some quality transfers that helped him at Arky state as well as not having a problem taking on questionable players (like Dyer).

I just do not view Malzahn as a viable candidate AT ALL, although I like him as a person and appreciate what he did at AU.

I believe the 28 million number is the total value of his contract over 8 years, not the buyout. I think the writer meant that another school would have to come up with a comparable deal to get him to leave, but he did a poor job conveying that. I'm sure there is an out clause that isn't the full value of his contract (but perhaps still substantial).

Agree. I do not want.

AU needs to get Patterson now. He has no buy out. They are dumb if they cant persaude him to come to Auburn.

Hopefully the rumors about Jacobs being retained bc he only needs 1 year till retirement are true. In that case I hope the search committee or powers that be communicate that to Patterson, since by all accounts he didn't take the job in 2008 because of Jacobs.

I don't know about that.

We passed on him in 2008, i doubt he holds a grudge but TCU isn't the same program they were back in 2008. I think the auburn job is better, but how long has he been at TCU 16 or 17 years? I hope we make every play we can at him, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he told us no thanks.

That's different than what i heard. That we didn't offer him the job because his interview went poorly.

Likley because jj had already pre determined that it would be chiz, but i don't think he got an offer from us.

The interview went bad because TJ was involved and wanted it to go bad... Patterson wanted nothing to do with TJ, he will have to be given 100% control and assurance that TJ will have ZERO to do with the football program.
