If they add 9K more seats and don't expand student seating, our stadium will look embarrassingly empty for every game that isn't against LSU or Alabama or some other top ten team coming to town.

Sorry to have to break it to y'all, but student seating in future plans like this is the least of their worries.

Know what they are more concerned with? Enhanced revenue. And that don't come from putting more student butts in the stadium (though they may well do that anyway if they add 9-10K more seats).

I fully understand that. But the student section is where most of the noise comes from and if we want to keep JHS an intimidating place to play, we need to get as many students in the stands as want to come. It's one of the reasons Kyle Field is as loud as it is for being so terrible acoustically. And Jordan-Hare, thanks to the track that used to be around it, is built about as perfect to keep noise in as you could want.

At some point the athletics department needs to ask themselves, "Which are we more concerned with: the product on the field, or the bottom line?"

We were top ten in the country last season in revenue, breaking our own record. That worked out so well for us on the field, and ended up costing us ~$15 million in contract buyouts that could've gone to facilities upgrades.

Yeah, an update to the exterior and the types/quality of concessions for the stadium should be our main priority at the moment. We are really behind the better stadiums in the SEC in these areas.

We don't need more seating capacity. Only reason I support adding some boxes and minor additional seating around them is to bump up our seating above 90k+ just to get to the next level in terms of size

The overall exterior/concourse appearance of the stadium, speaker system and concessions of the stadium need to change though. They are awful.

Food service contract ends in the next year or too and I would bet we would get Chartwells to replace Sudexo or whatever

I couldn't care less about upgrading the sound system or the concessions. Focus on the exterior.

I had season tickets from around 86-92 as a youngster and then 93-2000 as a student, the food has been always been pretty bad, but last game I went to last year against Ark the food was pretty much inedible. I'm not sure how you screw up hot dogs, but they managed.

This is not a young student problem, our food fricking sucks compared to most stadiums.

The first thing done to JHS has to be fixing up the exterior of the North End Zone. Looks absolutely terrible.

I keep reading this, but who actually stares at that end of the stadium? It is behind the building, down in a depression. Other than people walking through that area who even sees it? It could be nicer but I can totally understand why it hasn't received as much attention.

According to an AUC article with quotes from Jacobs, this is actually still the master plan for JHS.

Quotes incoming.

Of course, the crown jewel of Auburn’s athletic facilities is Jordan-Hare Stadium, which has been the home of the football team since 1939. It’s going under some minor renovations for the start of the 2013 season including the addition of 97 flat-screen TVs, new chairback seats in the club area, a Domino’s Pizza kitchen that will provide hot pizza to all permanent concession stands and five Momma Goldberg’s Deli locations added to the concourse.

“We have some more things we’re working on to enhance the concessions,” Jacobs said.

Auburn hasn’t done a major expansion to Jordan-Hare since 1987 but big changes are in the works. Auburn completed a master plan for the Stadium in 2009 that includes upper decks on the north and south ends, additional suites and an entirely bricked-in exterior.

“We look forward to that happening in the next year or two certainly with the excitement around football and Gus Malzahn,” Jacobs said. “We’ve designed it in such a way that we can do it one piece at a time if we need to.

“Our business model is, once we get to the point, we’re very close, of selling out our Tigers Unlimited tickets, then we’ll be looking to add some additional premium seating. In the meantime, we’re going to keep enhancing our facility by funding those areas we can to increase the gameday experience.”

Jacobs and his staff have already implemented some big enhancements to the gameday experience by opening up more than 2,000 free parking spaces and adding more tailgating areas.

“We’re still working on it almost daily,” Jacobs said. “The way I want it to be is back like it was when I first came here as a young boy and played and tailgated and hung out in the shadows of the Stadium.

“We’ve just begun. We have to continue to work. We just believe like coach Jordan used to say, there’s no better place than to be on campus to watch a college football game.”

I can find out soon from someone but I m pretty sure the contract with Sudexo ends soon. I believe they are trying to put in Chartwells soon who does on campus dining. Not sure if it would make much of a difference.

They really need to lower food costs and focus on filling the stadium

There was an article that came out in the last week or so that said it has either ended or will end this year.
