This is the first I have seen of our bunch. I caught the last minute of the first half and the entire second half. We have talent! We have multiple kids who can score. We can knock down our FT's. We have size. We have athleticism. I am looking forward in seeing how our bunch progresses. We could make some loud noise this year.

Limited playing time guy in the regular season. Probably gets more opportunity in the tourneys because of his defense

Rebounds will be fuel for this team. One possession BS on the offensive glass is kryptonite. Sonny said as much all night. Great second half.

The thing is, we had major foul problems in first half. Surprising. Agree he’s a big body and defensive presence that may be needed come tournament play.
Of course I made fun of coach Sunny, ouch. Long in the tooth tho

Agreed with all the above. But there will be growing pains.

He’s fine. He came in for mass walk-on substitution in the first game.

I want to talk about Walker Kessler. I see the dude call for the pass down low a lot, but our ball handlers constantly ignore him. In fact, sometimes he's just completely in the way of what the ball handlers want to do (dribble drive to the hoop.)
I honestly think he needs more touches down low. We need to start practicing that in these noncon games in case we get into a scenario where our threes don't hit.
And to be honest, I'm a little worried he'll start losing interest or becoming a problem in the locker room. He did leave a prestigious program once already.
Am I worried about nothing, or do you guys agree?

Passing into a big is a lost art in basketball today. You have to see them quickly and get the ball in quickly. If you’re slow or make them call for it for a while then the defender can get better position or help defense catches on and is waiting to double the big/intercept the pass. Plus it’s usually a tough pass that has to be on the money. It’s just going to take time and chemistry. It’s something every PG we’ve had has had to learn.
As for him being frustrated or being a problem, I don’t think that’s anything to worry about at this moment. By all accounts he’s loving it here and his role. He left UNC because Williams was only going to let him be a traditional big man who lives in the post. He took the same number of threes in the first game of the season as he did his entire time at UNC. He’s yet to hit one but Bruce is going to let him keep firing.

And remember, one of the reason he left NC, is because they wanted him to just play the post, and he wants to play outside too.
So, first he has to get his outside shot going in, and then he can contribute more.
I don't think he will get frustrated with not getting the ball inside, bc his reasons don't jive with that logic.
He's our best shot blocker for now, so he's contributing in other ways too.
And as someone above posted, I don't recall any of our PGs other than Sharife that looked to dish off to the inside guys. Harper, McCormick, etc all seemed to either look for a shot, or dribble drive mostly.
I thought Wendell, based on watching his tape, was a guy who looked to dish off to inside guys, but we will see.

On the 1st team, I think they swap Caldwell and Kessler soon for the rebounding. That 1st team is struggling on 2nd chance opps

I also don’t think Kessler is the type of big who will be good with his back to the basket. He seems very similar to Austin Wiley to me

His outside shot isn’t that impressive. It’s actually ugly.

McLemore also had a really ugly shot. His went in frequently though. Not a lot of big guys have a pretty stroke. All the talk in the off season from Bruce and the players is that Kessler can hit consistently from deep. Hopefully he just needs to see one go in to get his confidence from three and he doesn’t end up being like Horace where I want to punch the TV every time I see him take a three.

IT may be, but that is what he came wanting to do under Pearl.
And Pearl always allows his guys to shoot, even if it is ugly.
Just look at Cambridge's form. Ugly. But he still shoots it.
I think really with Kessler, it is just to keep the bigs honest if he can hit anything outside.
But you're right in one sense, if he can't hit them, even at a 25% clip, no one is going to get pulled out from under the basket to guard him..

Form is just whatever if he can make it. Otherwise they are wasted possessions. If makes you think UNC knew what they were doing when they wanted Kessler in the paint

Yeah and 1/9 from three so far in his career. Small sample size but the shots don’t look good or soft around the rim either.
