73-60 Final

Good win by 13 on the road. Dayton isn't as good as years past, but still tough atmosphere + decent competition

Dayton with the 'FBI' chants and various others after Auburn sleepwalks to an easy win. Classy bunch up there.

They have one of the best crowds in college basketball. Chanting fbi is harmless.

Definitely. It is still frustrating to watch the same bad shot selection that plagued the team last season. It's a delicate balance to free shooters up mentally and still have an understanding of good shot selection, but they can't win enough conference games if they don't clean this up some.

The two 3-pt attempts by McElmore leap immediately to my mind.

I mean, he was wide open at least

By all accounts, he has been putting in a ton of extra effort to improve shooting (see FT% .60->.87) including open 3FG. He's obviously not there yet, but I'd rather Bruce give him unconditional green light when open than let some lack of confidence give him the yips

I didn't realize confidence was a huge effect at the college level until I watched Aaron Gordon FT shooting at Zona

Gordon Zona FT%- 42.2%
Gordon Zona 3FG%- 35.2% (>1 3FGA/game too)
Gordon NBA FT% - 70.9%

quote:

And Brown...and Harper

I know both Brown/Harper have some shots but they offset it with good opportunities, otherwise their FG% would be trash

eFG%
Brown: 56.2%,
Harper: 51.1%
Heron: 50.6%

3FG %
Harper: 44%
Brown: 37.3%
Heron: 29.2%

2FG %
Brown: 56.7%
Heron: 53.7%
Harper: 33.3%

2FG% Free Throw Adjusted (Every 2FTA count as FGA, 2FTM = Made FG)
Brown: 63.2%
Heron: 59.0%
Harper: 48.4%

I don't disagree, but way too many shots.

The problem with Harper is that he makes a more than he should of the bad shots, so it's probably harder to coach him away from those.

Still, way too many contested 3s early in the possessions and not enough penetration and kick 3s.

I was at the game, when the students started chanting Bruce walked over and said something to them to stir them up more. Couldn’t make out what Bruce said but it looked like he was playing along with joke.

As long as guys are making ~35%+, I'm fine with them shooting 3s. Really forces opponents to overextend the defense + tighter on ball defense. I don't think many opponents have the depth to run the court for 40 minutes at our tempo while playing that type of defense

Cool, I am from the area. How was the arena and crowd? My family has had tickets since that venue opened in '69. Two sets, one of four court side and two more a few rows back. My dad was at the game as well.

Where in Cincy?
