Dunbar done with recruitment after visit to Auburn (Rivals)
quote:

It didn’t take long for Malik Dunbar to realize he wanted to finish his college career at Auburn.

Dunbar, a junior college transfer from College of Central Florida, was less than 24 hours into his visit to Auburn when he made the announcement.

“I decided to be part of the Auburn family,” Dunbar said of his Saturday night commitment. “It’s a close-knit community; everybody is family. I just felt it was the best opportunity for me.”

Dunbar spent the weekend in Auburn on an official visit. He spent time throughout his stay with Auburn coach Bruce Pearl and assistants Harris Adler, Chuck Person and Steven Pearl.

“Coach (Bruce) Pearl is a good coach and a great guy,” Dunbar said. “I feel like he is going to take me under his wing. And Coach Person, he’s already told me a little something on my shot that made it better.”

Dunbar developed bonds with the coaches, but it was the players, guys like player-host Horace Spencer, who had the biggest impact on Dunbar’s decision.

“When I played open gym with the boys, I just felt like the team really wanted me to come here,” Dunbar said. “I felt the love from the team.”

Dunbar plans to give back to the team, the coaches and even the fans when he arrives at Auburn in July.

“I’m going to work hard when I get here,” Dunbar said. “I don’t want to let the fans down. I’m going to give them all I have. I’m a natural 3, but Auburn wants me to play the 2 and the 3. I’m aggressive enough that I can make an impact immediately.”

Dunbar, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 230 pounds, committed to Auburn over offers from Ole Miss and Arkansas-Little Rock, among others. He visited Ole Miss last weekend, but will not take any other visits.

“I’m done,” Dunbar said.

Dunbar joined five-star center Austin Wiley, four-star forward Chuma Okeke and four-star point guard Davion Mitchell in Auburn’s 2017 recruiting class.

He is a thicker TJ Dunans. Hopefully under more control and without all the turnovers. Biggest add is he can initiate the offense from the 2 or 3 and that is important with both Harper and Mitchell not being traditional pg's.

ETA- He has a nice stroke so I think with some work he can be effective shooting from deep.

Not according to 247.

They fit the scoring PG role rather than the distributor /creator role. Iverson/DRose vs Nash/Chris Paul

Jamari Wheeler will be visiting Auburn April 26-27

I imagine if we snag him that means we are done. Don't see us taking more than 2 but who knows

Not a fan of taking another guard while severely lacking in post production.

I imagine we only take Wheeler if we strike out on everyone else like grad transfers. If his offer was committable he would have already jumped on it.

We are adding Murray and returning 4 young post players

Our guard play has a lot to be desired now that RoJo and Dunans are gone.

We have 3 players that can play the 5 with Wiley, Mclemore and Spencer and 5 that can play the 4 with Spencer, Okeke, Mclemore, Purifoy and Murray. We are fine with bodies in the post. Where we were lacking was on the perimeter and that is why we are bringing in another wing in Dunbar and looking at potentially adding another pg with Wheeler.

It may have never been but a few weeks back a national writer based out of NYC tweeted that he was considering transferring and would have a decision in 2 weeks.

It was weird because only one writer had sources on it. Any other person was just an echo of his tweet

He doubled down on it too

These quotes pretty much confirm that he considered transferring.

quote:

Asked if he considered transferring, he said, “Yes, I definitely wanted to weigh my options out but at the end of the day I just didn’t want to sit out a whole year and after talking to my family and my whole support system, I figured that this would be the best move, just to come back and help the program build and build my own brand and things like that.”

I do wonder what the team morale/chemistry vibe was last year w/ this quote

quote:

It was more knowing that I’ll be able to develop, play a bigger role as far as team leadership goes,” he said. “I was made one of the captains for next year,

It seems like every year we hear of bad team morale. I don't get it. That would seem like one thing that would never be a problem under Pearl, yet we seem to have it a lot.
