Basketball recruiting is really heating up now that we are fully staffed and all the stupid Chuck Person junk is behind us.

Yep. Thankfully we are back to a full staff as well. Plus we now have in-roads to Arkansas to supplement our recruiting efforts.

When he says in Alabama I really hope he means in Auburn and not Birmingham or some stupid neutral court

MIDNIGHT MADNESS

Something else that will be exciting to follow is Auburn’s plan for its first practice of the season, and whether or not the Tigers can make it happen.

Colleges can begin practicing Friday, Oct. 12, and Auburn would like to hold its first practice under the lights at … Toomer’s Corner.

Yes, Toomer’s Corner.

Auburn’s plan includes installing a raised basketball court in the streets of Toomer’s Corner with lighting and seating. Practice would begin at midnight (which would be late Thursday night, Oct. 11) and fans would be encouraged to attend. Auburn’s football team hosts Tennessee on Saturday, Oct. 13, so it likely would be a packed house/street.

Auburn tried to do the same thing last year, but there wasn’t enough support. This year, the plan has momentum. It has more support. I’ve heard Under Armour would be a major sponsor and provide the court. Other sponsors have pledged support and more financing. The SEC Network likely would televise it.

Still, nothing has been finalized. Not yet. More support/financing is needed. But I will say that there is a lot of optimism, much more than a year ago, that Auburn will get it done.

Was just pondering on this again and remembered that lately some big teams have played early-season games on aircraft carriers, so there have got to be companies out there that have the ability to set up temp basketball courts.

Now the great advantage of a carrier deck is that it is as flat as hell and College and Magnolia likely aren't (even though they "look" like it to the eye), so I don't know how that enters or even ruins the equation.

Our women’s basketball program from back in the day has been the biggest recruiter for our men’s program present day

Pretty normal these days. You’re right that we’ve seen them on the Air Force carriers but we also see them every Final Four now that they majority are played in football stadiums

If the court is raised they can level it out pretty easily

I'm in the special event industry, and you'd be amazed at some of the things these companies can do. Basketball court at C&M, no problem. In fact, I think Game Day Tents' parent company is one of the companies that could do it. I was recently involved with a wedding reception which took place on an artificial floor built up about 6' above a sloping fairway at a golf course... It was at least the size of a basketball court. If they can level that, they can level a couple of streets.

Michigan State and UNC were the first to do this a few seasons ago and it was the coolest game I ever watched.

I would love for someone who knows what they are talking about to give the ones of us who don't a very quick explanation of it. Meaning, how many players can we take, when is signing day, etc.

Would be nice and Id raise a glass to them

Basketball gets 13 scholarship players, below is the current breakdown of players by class

SR - 3
JR - 5
SO - 2
FR - 2* (transfer is redshirting)

At a minimum, Auburn should have at least 4 open scholarship slots. There is a real possibility we could have 6-7 spots if guys like Wiley, Purifoy, Harper or other opt to leave early

Basketball has two separate signing days in the fall/spring

FALL - Nov 14 - Nov 21
SPRING - Apr 17 - May 15

It isn't quite as crazy as football when it comes to NSD. Not as much drama and a significant number of kids are already committed by the time NSD comes around

very quick explanation

So one thing to keep in mind is that past the obvious top 25-50 elite players, basketball recruiting rankings are often garbage.

Partly because rankings often value NBA potential over NCAA potential but there also less resources to scout HS players for recruiting services relative to football. It is extremely difficult to properly evaluate a kid when a late , unexpected growth spurt of 2-4 inches can be the only difference from 3* to 5* caliber player.

In addition to my above post explaining recruiting etc

For AU specific recruiting for 2019+, I know 2 guys I have consistently heard about is commited Okoro and target Tyrell Jones

G/F - Isaac Okoro - AU believes he would be the best NBA caliber bball talent we've had since Bruce arrived in AU

G - Tyrell Jones - AU is extremely high on Jones and is making him a primary focus point of recruiting now that Okoro is on board.

Unrelated to my above recruiting posts

We will have a very tough schedule to repeat as SECC next season

MSU and UK, our H/A rotations are both top 4 caliber opponents while we also play on the road vs LSU/Vandy who both should be much improved

I project us at either 11-7 or 12-6 next season, which I don't believe will be good enough to win the regular season SECC

I like when they play in Birmingham. It's nice. It's more fun when its vs UAB though, at least for me.

I like playing UAB in BHam too, but those are Home/Home games really, not neutral site.

The only time I'd want to do a neutral site BHam game is during the winter break when students are out of town.

Seems unfair that Duke and Kentucky get to play summer games in Canada. Getting early practice time and a chance to break in freshmen
