I haven't seen a single time in his OC/HC history where Gus Malzahn has actually allowed the QB any kind of on-the-field responsibility outside of (1) the read on an actual read-option or (2) which receiver to throw to on a pass play (and I fully believe that there are lots of times that he has contolled that too).

“Jarrett probably has more flexibility than any quarterback that we’ve had since I’ve been in college,” Malzahn said last season. “From the standpoint of change protections, the RPOs, the decision making, he probably has more freedom than any quarterback we’ve had.”

quote:

So I'll choose to NOT believe this nigh-unbelievable thing until I actually see it happen with a frequency that actually means he's given the QB that flexibility more than in a singular, very rare, on-field occurrence
if you don't mind.

Be as obstinate as you want to be. You and jville have your schtick - far be it from me to stop you.

Would have already won multiple at a program like Auburn

Went undefeated last year at UCF. GusShortBus has had at least 2 losses or more each year at Auburn

GusShortBus was not the HC at the time, and would have already won multiple at a program like Auburn

Their toughest games that season were South Florida, Memphis, and gimp/disinterested Auburn team. I really like Frost too, but pump the brakes.

No he was only the OC. The HC was the potentially the least competent HC in program history. I like Kelly too, but I think he's in the same tier as Gus and the rest of the coaches you listed.

Yes, because we are such a historic program that is known for churning out championships

Peterson has averaged 4.25 losses a season since he's been at Washington.

Patterson has averaged 4.5 losses a season since TCU joined the Big 12.

Bobby Petrino has averaged 4.5 losses a season since returning to Louisville. Keep in mind he had a Heisman QB too.

Gus has averaged 4.4 losses a season at Auburn.

So basically you just listed a bunch of people with similar resumes to Gus.

Auburn has had more success than most programs not named Alabama the past 30+ years. And that is with subpar coaching like GusShortBus. Just think what a championship caliber coach would do.

At much lesser programs than Auburn. None of those programs can recruit talent close to Auburn. And I see you failed to mention Peterson's win/loss average at Boise.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that would honestly not trade GusShortBus, in a heartbeat, for any of those coaches I listed.

You've yet to establish the legitimacy of the term "championship caliber".

PS: The term "GusShortBus" really takes away from any semi-intelligent point you'd make.

I agree. Saban and Meyer would do amazing things here.

We are probably a top 10-15 program in the past 30 years. Which is good, but let's not act like we have been knocking on the door of NC's the whole time.

None of them play talent like we face either.

Washington is somewhat comparable to Auburn. They aren't as good, but they aren't that far behind.

Peterson is 37-17 (.685) and is 1-3 in bowl games, all while playing is potentially the worst of the P5 conferences.

Gus is 45-22 (.672) and is 1-4 in bowl games, and is playing in the freaking thunderdome.

Petrino was basically begging people to hire him

3 straight top 5 finishes, which is 1 more top 5 finish than the rest of Oregon's FB history

For comparison, Auburn has only 4 top 5 AP finishes since our 1983 season

We had one fricking national championship before 2010 yet this list of guys would have doubled or tripled our total over the past 5 years?

Lol Gary Patterson hasn't left TCU for much bigger programs than Auburn. Stop being a fricking idiot.

I'm not arguing they aren't quality coaches. I'm arguing it's ridiculous to say they would have definitely won multiple NC's here.

Yeah but that would have thrown off my "never sniffed a NC" narrative I'll concede that they sniffed it, and then they got loved tenderly.

Gary Patterson reached out to Auburn in 2008. Fact

JJ the baffoon insulted him by telling him he'd have to interview. Fact

First, I'm on the Gus Bus all season until I'm not. Gus gets 100% support up to 3 losses and then I will demand for better. I don't think that is unreasonable. If the PTB decide to keep him on for another season, I've got no choice but to rinse/repeat, being that I'm not a billionaire.

However, somebody making one phone call TEN years ago and then getting his panties in a wad about being asked to come to interview for a real job making millions of dollars is not a fact in favor of your argument. It's just the opposite, I'm afraid.
