You're the fricking head coach now why are you having assistants draw the plays up and talking to the players during critical moments .

Shocking a team that has no leader on the floor has no leader on the coaching staff

Pearl is definitely not his dad. I dont know what he brings to the team.

He will not last long… hopefully this is corrected before he sinks the program to the depths of the football team

This is very common in college basketball. Watch more bball guys.

They’ll be shocked who called most of our offensive plays last year

Is it also very common for a team to not be able to inbound the ball up 16 with 12 mins left. Then fold, like cheap lawn furniture for the next 8 minutes. No it’s not that’s what the fricking coach is there for.

HS too. I still dont see what he brings to the team.

As of right now, very little as defense is what he mainly calls and has coached and we are abysmal there. Our defense has been so good the past few years but man are they atrocious this year.

I mean frick. They even did a split screen of both huddles.
One was coaching like they had a chip on their shoulder. The other was relaxed basically saying "come on guys yall know what to do."
He is not an X's and O's guy. He is not a motivator. Not a recruiter. Not analytical. He is literally just the guy that knows Bruce's program.

Unfortunately, Steven is just not a very good head coach. Giving him the job was a courtesy to Bruce and in time, he may improve and grow, but I’m not liking what I see so far.

I’m pretty sure most of the time in the last few years it was Steven with the clipboard drawing stuff during timeouts.
Maybe that’s the way Bruce ran things.
I’m not a basketball expert but I played in an excellent high school program and coached JV basketball at a good high school program for 10 years.
This team’s number one problem is they don’t have a guy who can punish you for pressuring the ball 70 feet from the basket. If you don’t have a ball handler like that you will be pressured and a man press hurts you if you don’t have a guy who can consistently beat it one on one and hurt the defense for doing it.
If a JV team I was coaching did not have that player we killed them with pressure. If they did we had to back off to avoid giving up easy baskets.

quote:Exactly. There’s plenty to be frustrated with but an assistant coach working a huddle every now and then is very common. Regarding defense, this team lacks the elite defenders we are used to. Yes, defense is a lot of effort and coaching. But, it also takes a certain skill too. We don’t have anyone close to what we have been used to Cardwell, Broome, CBM, Denver, Chaney, Kessler, Okoro, Bryce Brown, Dunbar, Mcormick etc. Hell, Zep Jasper or KD Johnson would make this team instantly better. Just a complete failure on roster building. At least we can score at times

Auburn should never have been his first head coaching job. I hope he figures it out before this program is back to square one.

Steven Pearl sucks but you sound dumb as frick. Go back to not watching basketball like 5 years ago

College basketball is not a several year build and he shouldn't be given that much time. One more season after this, max, unless he shows he can handle the job.

I mean it depends. If he goes like 20-11 next season and makes the tournament that should be plenty to keep him around. If he wins 4 SEC games and we miss the NIT, probably next year is it.

Pearl answers questions at postgame pressers like he’s on a message board. Dropping F-bombs and cursing every 2 sentences

We are not well coached. Maybe he grows into the job but I have a feeling this is going to be a long two years. Defense is all about effort and want to something that we are severely lacking along with any cohesion or semblance of a style. People can say what they want about the roster but this is a different team with Bruce on the sidelines
