Starting QB Next Week?

Will there be an “open competition” this week at practice? I think we can all agree Thorne is not the answer and it can’t get much worse than yesterday.

Just somebody else. Any body else. If they don’t look like a better choice, then another somebody else.
Kinda like the coaching carousel will be.

lol why is it that every opposing qb comes in to JHS and we’re like oooo he’s good. But our guys continue to suck a-hole. I swear we’re living in some sort of voodoo curse.

Freeze messed up not getting a guy in the portal. I know he wanted to save the money for this class................but winning helps recruiting. The garbage we are watching doesn't help one bit.
The top players want playing time..........and just as importantly they want to win.
Go with Hank. What is the worst thing that can happen.......he goes 50% and throws 4 ints.(really 5)?
We need to build for the future at the QB position. This season is fuqued.

Yes.
I will drink to that.
I don’t know the quarterback answer right now. But I’ve never been one to stick to something that’s not working. You have to make changes. Plain and simple.

We need to see what we have on the roster. If none of them can play, we will know we need to hit the portal and spend................even if that means we miss on a recruit or two this year.

It is just too important of a piece of the puzzle to push to the side. And that intern is what we have done. Try to just have someone that’s manageable. But in all reality, he is not manageable.
His play yesterday and look in his eyes, showed it all. Anyone that thinks that guy is going to turn things around halfway through his senior season but all the experience he has it’s just kidding themselves. Plus, do you think he was on the sidelines leading the team? Which is also his job. he needs to be the guy

As a wise, grizzled old coach once said … “It’s the offensive line, stupid”
The difference in the first two games is glaringly obvious. And it is a persistent problem that has plagued us for many years, thanks to anemic OL recruiting by Gus, and abysmal OL recruiting by Harsin.
I had hoped CHF would address this known deficiency by now … perhaps it takes much longer in todays CFB environment than what it did in days gone by. I also give Freeze credit …. I believe he understands the importance of building the LoS the right way , more so than either Gus or Harsin ever did.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not singling out the players, and I really appreciate their effand the seem like good kids …… we just don’t have the talent and experience along the LoS that we need to be competitive in a league like the SEC. At best, we may rank 13th in the SEC … and that puts us in the bottom 25% of the conference.
IOW, it doesn’t matter which QB is back there right now … the results will likely be similar. Cal pushed our lines around .
It also doesn’t fully explain why Thorne completely melted down in yesterday’s game. Four INT’s , … and he dodged a pick-6 in the first minute of play

Maybe we sold our soul to have Cam and 2013 Nick Marshall, and now we’re paying the price

I agree that we are lacking the talent to compete in the sec but we’ve been pushed around by New Mexico St and Cal at home. Freeze needs more time to build but he’s gonna lose capital fast if he wastes that time on Thorne.

THIS! I watched Thorne on the sidelines waiting to head go in during the 4th quarter. Team was huddled together, except for Thorne. He was "warming up: his arm away from the team. He is not a game time leader. He may be in command during practice, but he doesn't have it for game time, especially when behind on the scoreboard.
Practices like Tarzan, plays like Jane.
For those that excuse him for poor play and blame the OL. we had similar situation when Nix was here. But Nix would put the game on his shoulders and PLAY.
Yes. Time for a change.

Thorne period.
You clowns are already looking for a new coach.
Go watch Volleyball instead.

Mebbe … but I remember Nix on the Plains as a great pocket passer that rarely had a pocket … hell, he was running for his life on most plays . Nix saw the handwriting on the wall, and Oregon had a much better OL (and an easier schedule.)
Nobody blames Nix for making a good personal decision … and hindsight proves he made a good decision.
Fix the OL, and this 6 win team becomes a 9 win team very quickly

It is more about attitude. Thorne is not a gamer. He is not a leader to get you down the field when AU is behind. Ever see him talk to his linemen after reading the defense? Nope. Slaps his hands and hopes the center called the right scheme.
Yes, Nix ran for his life. However, he had an attitude and talked to his linemen. May not have done much good, but they knew he was a game time leader. That was my point. When the game is on the line, lead or get out of the way.

I think Freeze couldn’t get exactly who he wanted in the portal so he rationalized that Throne could make it happen with the right receivers. I understand the rationale. But that is clearly not the case. Everybody makes mistakes and that was Hugh’s.

I find it funny that we keep making excuses about o-line depth and how no qb could do anything with our line. Cal had 2 back ups starting on their oline and their qb threw for 202 yards in a half. We had to essentially blitz everyone to get pressure. Thorne can't make quick reads. Freeze doesn't call plays to help the qb. Face it, auburn is and has been a poorly coached team for years. Like others have said, last year we had 3 qb guru coaches and everyone still seems to suck. The players always seem flat. Other qbs/teams with inferior talent seem to do well at auburn.

quote:Freeze will stick with Thorne. Zero chance he pulls him in his senior year after one loss. If Freeze was going to bench him, he would have done it during the game, and he didnt.

Just a few weeks ago, a ton of people on this board was jacking each other off how great Hugh had done turning the oline around and how it would be good. The oline cannot hold them forever, and the quarterback cannot take those big sacks. If he does, the defense is going to consistently blitz. The playcalling has to fix that. It didn’t
