That's vague as shite. Wtf does that even mean?

Its not that vague when you use my whole post as context.

You are really saying Countess wasn't the best defensive player when the team voted that he was?

You think the team would vote a true frosh over a popular senior?

The senior has been there just as long as the freshman but I get your point. But you have to remember early in the season when even JSU receivers were burning and scoring on Davis. Davis got a lot better as the year went a long. Davis might've finished better than Countess but Countess was easily the most consistent of the two throughout the season.

Que the downvotes and go!

lot of times it seems Auburn fans are absurdly biased against our own players.

Just because someone says some player is just a solid contributor like say Marcus Davis doesn't mean they are anti AU

It is like how if I were to say Carl Lawson hasn't accomplished much at Auburn, you would flip a shite despite it being true.

I agree with you here. I think it is very understandable how Countess got the award over Davis.

His 40 time, closing speed, tackling ability and versatility ie play corner, nickle or safety will have NFL teams spending millions to sign him. Personally, his combine will lock him into the top 5 secondary players taken in the draft imo.

I could see a strong combine increasing his stock dramatically. what I was asking was who are the former AU players in the league we were comparing him to.

Carlton Davis was 10 times the player Countess was.

you want to talk about a beast lets talk Carlton Davis. say that name 3 more times and I'm liable to bust a chub. Rudy Ford = elite speed, meh ball skills, solid tackler when he's not on his period, great kid, great teammate overall proud to have him. best in a decade? no. Carlton Davis on the other hand... that kid has got the potential to be something very special. I just hope 3 different schemes in 3 or 4 years doesnt ruin him.

An extreme example, but I remember a thread about Shon Coleman being the worst LT in college football.

Nick Marshall was always undervalued by fans while he was here too.

Coleman made a huge jump yr 1 to yr2. Still, Brannigan was Branniganing since Coleman was just avg that first year

I remember that Kelton Warrior douchenozzle saying Sean White > Nick Marshall and had better arm strength just because he threw well Vs Kentucky

I want to join the pile on jangalang train!!!

Team voted awards don't always go to the best player. Countess did a lot of things for the team last year that know one else did and from all accounts is a really good dude. Not surprised he earned the vote especially with him being a senior. It was probably gonna be him or Jones.

But when it comes to talent and ability there's just no one as good as Davis. As a true freshman he lined up against some of the best WRs in the nation and held his own. Yes he struggled early but by end of the year he was the closest thing to a lockdown corner AU has had in years.

I appreciate what Countess did for the team. He was the glue guy we so desperately needed with all the injuries and maybe at the beginning of the season he was the best DB. But by the end of the year teams weren't throwing to Davis's side. I mean heck Bama only tested Davis 2 or 3 times and it took an absolute monster of a catch by Ridley to get any yards on him.

For once I am actually excited about our secondary. Davis will be the lockdown guy, we have 4 safeties that can play SEC ball and from all accounts both Jamel Dean & Javaris Davis should be git time contributors and we get Holsey back. It's weird actually not fearing the secondary going into a season

Practice notes in yet?

Jeremy Johnson was with the first-team again, just as he was last Tuesday. This time he was joined by senior running back Jovon Robinson. Xavier Dampeer replaced Austin Golson as the starting center. Tony Stevens were at receiver Ryan Davis while Jalen Harris was at tight end. Golson, who started 10 games at center last season, took some reps at left tackle Tuesday. James and Robert Leff saw time at both tackle spots.

Yeah, right tackle, right?

LT Austin Golson
LG Alex Kozan
C Xzavier Dampeer
RG Braden Smith
RT Darius James

I like this lineup. Mainly worried about left tackle, but overall, looks good on paper.

I thought Golson was weak at C. Not sure I want him at LT. I dont know why I feel that Leff or Golson is a wash there.

I don't swing that way broseph. I'll let you slide on that faux pas though since I'm only one generation away from the "I want to be a pony" generation.

Now that that is out of the way, you really never even countered anything I said unless you truly think C Davis was the defensive MVP just because he turned around his play midseason. I never said Countess had the ability that Davis had on defense.
