Hank can run the RPO scheme Holden can not. He has a good arm but not a quick release which Hank has. That’s the one thing Walker White needs to work on as well. Shortening up that release on quick throws.

I like Holden and thought he was a good fit for Bobo/Harsin. Not sure he’s in any plans for Freeze outside lucking until a role due to injury.

This what I expect to happen with the QBs. Thorne to start the season with Hank at number 2. Walker White at 3 but not running scout team.
At the end of the year I suspect we land a good QB out of high school. I also expect us to go out and get a top transfer 1 year QB to start in ‘25 because we need to win. In ‘26 White and this years high school QB (Longstreet?) battle it out with Hank for the starting spot for the ‘26 season.

Missed the game only to come here for a recap and get three pages on a kicker. A kicker…….
We’re doomed aren’t we?

quote:He was the clear number 4 guy in that room. Thorne is Qb1, Hank overtook Geriner for Qb2 with White trailing the pack is what i saw.
I even thought Walker was almost even with them
quote:to me the pass from DTHB was so clutch it earned him playing time. Game on the line and he fits the ball into a tight window that ended up getting us into FG position to win the game. Holden turned it over on downs iirc.
beyond that at the end when Hank hit Rico for a gain while Geriner had Lewis drop a pass. I think its basically even and the coaches will want them all to stay and keep pushing each other.

I agree Walker is 4, but I'm just saying it wasn't a big gap. By next year I could see that gap being closed.
I really don't see where everyone think Hank was great. He missed plenty of throws too and I don't remember many passes outside the hashes (Though I do plan to rewatch later). That's not to say he was bad, I liked a lot of what he did. I just don't see how anyone can say there is clear separation between Hank and Holden. And Holden didn't turn it over on down (Unless you mean the sack at halftime), Lewis didn't catch a wide open slant.. We didn't see Hank run today either, but we saw Thorne run plenty.. I don't think Hank or Holden would be running much for us.

I would’ve liked to have seen White run with the 1st team WRs one drive. He was hitting the walkons in the chest, and they kept dropping it.

Yep Gentry dropped 2 that I saw. One was a 4th down and another would have been a 1st down. Gentry did some back and make a couple though. That's basically why I think there isn't a huge gap between him and the rest.

quote:It was a pretty big gap. White was sailing balls and missing receivers. He settled in late in the scrimmage and to his credit, he took care of the ball. He also looked like running never ran across his mind which was probably by design.

Holden was also the only one going against the first team defense. Thorne and Brown were going against mostly backups.

No. They clearly said it was 1 v 1, 2 v 2, etc.

They mixed some at times too. On Holdens deep throw to Brown, Kayin Lee is who broke it up and he's 1st team. I don't know how many other rotated, but I'm sure a few did.

Watch it again. In the first half Thorne and Brown were facing backups with the first team offense while Holden and Walker faced the 1st team defense with the 2nd string offense. The 2nd drive in the 2nd half is the only thing close to 1s vs 1s we had and there were still a few like Faulk and Asante that were done for the day at that point.

I didn't see much about the running backs or running game at all, I went to the air show in Montgomery. How were they?

Nothing worth noting. The OL didn't do well opening holes but it appeared to me that the focus was on the passing game.

The only player on the 1st drive was Asante that was 1st string..
It's Payton and then who ever your mind wants. Hank was not good. The pass to Coleman was over thrown or Cam would have walked in.
Also our DB made some plays on some very well thrown deep balls (3 or 4)
Payton Thorne: 9-13, 133 yds, TD; 4 rush, 20 yds
Hank Brown: 5-12, 102 yds
Holden Geriner: 7-10, 46 yds; 1 rush, -7 yards
Walker White: 5-13, 83 yds, 3 rush, -7 yards
