Everyone needs to realize that firing malzahn would mean hiring a lesser known for a cheap price

You can't fire malzahn, pay this absurd amount, then pay a shite ton more on a big name

Can't have it both ways

And I fully am on board with a lesser known. The shift change would provide an enthusiastic boost alone

I have said this in a few threads. Again, this isnt my opinion. Just knowing how AU works. We will fire Gus. It will be a financial burden. Because of this, we will roll with Steele/Chip combo for a few years to overcome the red we will be in. Not saying it is the best option, but a strong reality.

I honestly think so too.

It’s a Les Miles type situation. Too stubborn to change and wants absolutely no input. I feel like his assistants are starting to hate him and it is filtering down to the players.

Not ideal, but I'd be okay with this!

I just do not see paying that kind of money for a roll of the dice. We could well end up with someone worse than Gus or not much better, believe it or not.

Not much better? Are you prepared for 3-4 more years of what we've seen this season?

I would be neutral. If this or a similar situation happens, I would only be content if the person who approaved the Gus contract is fired. The next contract needs to be incentive heavy. I am fine with over paying for success.

I don't know why people would be against someone like Bill Clark. Was Saban a household name when LSU hired him? Has been coaches like Stoops are a joke. Reminds me of USCe hiring Holtz, then Spurrier. Did either one of these "established" coaches win anything there?

You can get Bill Clark fairly inexpensive. He's a proven winner everywhere he's been. I don't know of a more impressive job that what he's done at UAB, who was essentially given the death penalty a couple of years ago.

To be fair, nobody has ever won anything there. Spurrier gave them their only SEC East title so I’d say he surpassed expectation.

I agree with your point, but using Carolina as the example isn’t the way to go

Because he has very little D1 college experiance. Did Gus not teach you a lesson?

I think you guys are out of your mind if you think a coach like Bill Clark would take a job at Auburn if Gus gets canned a year after signing a 7 year deal.

Clark didn’t coach for 2 whole years in order to coach again at UAB. He’s not leaving that program where he’s at right now to walk into this shitshow for a fraction of what we paid Gus. If he wants a P5 job he’ll wait

You guys need to let that sink in

I agree with you. We are discussing a guy who waited 2 years for a defunct football program to begin again instead of transitioning elsewhere when I’m sure he had plenty of opportunity. He’s got a fantastic setup now and has no reason to leave

$$$, better recruiting, better facilities, much bigger stage, more prestige.

You are crazy if you think any non-P5 coach wouldn't jump at the chance to take the HC Auburn job.

I think he leaves, but not before establishing himself as the next premier P5 coaching candidate. And I don’t think he’d cash in that chip to coach somewhere unstable where he’d get a fraction of the previous coach’s salary.

If we can Gus this off season we’re looking at something like Paul Rhodes. Some position coach with previous HC experience to become a filler until a few years pass and a top HC becomes available.

If there’s one that wouldn’t, it’s Bill Clark. Better recruiting isn’t a plus.. he’s recruiting fine at UAB from the looks of it. Who is to say he would want a bigger stage or more prestige? Sure most coaches want that, but there’s plenty who are just fine doing what they’re doing

In a world where the university doesn’t fire its coach immediately after signing a 7 year deal, absolutely. Especially when that comes on the heels of canning the school’s president too.

Nobody is going to move their family here to be on the perpetual hot seat after 2 seasons you guys need to take the O&B glasses off. This situation is a fricking dumpster fire of historical proportions.

For all this Disneyland make believe talk of how great the Auburn head coaching job is - the best we could do the last two tries were Gene Chizik and Gus

You guys have fun with this thread. I can’t handle the delusion in here right now

Dude, put down the ludes and vodka!

Has UAB ever signed a 4*? What Clark does well, is coach. He does very well with the talent he can get. Imagine what he could do with the talent Auburn has, and can bring in!

Name one successful coach that is happy not competing for championships. Trust me, winners want to win, and we all know UAB will never, ever, ever be in contention for a natty. If Clark was happy winning at a lower level, he never would have left Prattville HS to take the job as a DC at South Alabama. Trust me, he would probably get a speeding ticket driving to Auburn for the interview.

Auburn won’t hire an old, aging, 9-36 HC. It won’t happen.

If Jay Jacobs was here, probably, but he isn’t.
