Did we already know this?

The Toomer’s Oaks will be replaced this weekend, nearly two years to the day they were installed. Southern Scape, a Huntsville-based landscape company, confirmed to the Opelika-Auburn News that they’ve been hired to replace new oak trees on Toomer’s Corner on Saturday.

What happened?! I thought one took seed pretty well, and the other did too after its first replacement????

Just put up a couple of big ole bronze tree statues and forget about it. That we we can roll the hell out of them and germans cant set them on fire.

That's my thinking as well. Knew the burnt was TBD.

I feel like it's wishful thinking on the university's part that something will grow there and not get tampered with again

Hence, the 247 title: "Toomer's Corner oak trees to be replaced — again"

That's what I has hoping for the first time. They can make them look good and as big as they want, while also making them repairable.

How do you make a bronze sculpture of a tree? I would assume it would have leaves. I just don't see how it's feasible to make a bronze sculpture of a tree when there are so many minuscule parts you would have to cast.

My wife says we should put up huge artificial trees similar to the tree of life at Disney animal kingdom. Looks like a real tree with carvings in it.

I'm cool with doing something inorganic on the corner, but fake trees trying to look real would be a huge shame. Cast metal could be really nice.

It's an intersection in a nice, small college town - not a fricking roadside attraction mini-Epcot without rides.

It's sorta the only real tradition that Auburn has that's unique, tbh - and it's right smack dab in the town center where downtown and campus meet. People propose under it and shite. The university/city has literally spent over a million bucks on it since that mouth breather poisoned the original.

I wouldn't say arguing over real/fake/fake that looks real is overthinking it. And anyway, what else are we gonna talk about on an Auburn sports board in the middle of February?

At this point, they're going to have to get trees planted there that take. It just wouldn't look good for our horticulture program to throw in the towel.
