I can’t imagine a true freshman transferring because you bring in a one year transfer to compete with him for his redshirt freshman year.

I hope you are right Tg. But things have changed with these free portal passes.

Why not White next year? How many years is he going to be at Auburn before he gets developed?

Did you seriously just ask this?

Why not White? Because Freeze is gone if he doesn't win next season. And if you watched White at all yesterday, you should know why Freezed can't go into his make or break year with him as his starter. He obviously can not gamble on an unknown.

Or does he finally get a one year portal guy and we delay that another year. Meaning bring up one of our recruits. Deuce or White? Hell, does White men stay if we bring in a portal guy.
This is why the Portal is such a problem. It will eventually lead to HS recruiting not being as important. HCs will let players go wherever and then buy them after they are proven. Players won't let you teach them behind someone and everyone wants to be on the field day one and then will leave when their value goes up.

You can't go all off a few snaps in his first time on the field. He obviously didn't look great but few do their first drive in college. Hank looked great one week then awful the next against Arkansas and he's in year 2 with Freeze.

The point is that Freeze doesn't have the luxury of taking that risk. White was on the scout team (ie: 4th string) all season long until this past week.

Freeze can't go into his potentially final season with a what-if QB. Its not even remotely an option. The fact that anyone would suggest that is kind of crazy to me.

Freeze may not have an option if no one is looking at us. But if he has options I'm sure he will buy the best he can this time around.

M4 is right. If White was closer to being on the field we all agree he would've already been on that field by now.

Not so fast gabby.... if we had an o'line then PT and the running game would have likely been good enough to have allowed for some development time.

Not that we wanted to burn a red shirt.

You are almost there. You are going to make my entire point this year for me and I appreciate it.

The fact that Freeze has failed as a game day coach is in effect be his undoing. His shitty coaching is putting us in a 4 win season which is going to be very difficult to lure in a competitive QB for one season. Losing our best receiver, our #1 running back, some of the offensive line, all our linebackers means we sorta start over next year. Now bringing in a portal guy that matters will not be easy. There are more teams looking for competent QBs than there are QBs out there in the portal.

So, other than write a check, what is Hugh going to do in the next couple months to talk a good portal QB into being his guy next season?

Either he failed this year at finding one or he doubled down on Thorne. None of us really know the answer to that.

And if Raybern is correct that the portal is killing the chance for high school QB's to play, what is Deuce going to do? I get his point. You are always going to look for an experienced guy but they have to get that experience somewhere.

I'm not sure if it was your point but with there not being enough supply of quality Portal QBs then there are going to be alot of schools that will have to take chances on HS QBs and let the best ones play. It really just hurts the lesser talented HS kids from playing in D1 or getting scholarships right out of HS.

But Freeze in a tight now and has to try his best to get Duece and someone from the Portal just to hope one works out to save his own butt next year. Plus we need as many QBs as we can get if none are ready now.

I hope he stays. We are getting in the later part of November. If he flips now and ends up a early signee somewhere else, that would really suck for us.
