Only other reason to tank would if it helps other SEC teams keep their 1 seed so we can play them later on.

Would hate to see Bama/Florida lose some down the stretch and they get dropped from a 1 seed to a 2 seed in our bracket. Let them win, so they say really far away from us in the tourney

Players like Harper were playing uncharacteristically.

He had 17 points on >50% shooting and was 4-8 on 3s.

I'm talking about late in the game. He had like 2 turnovers in the last 2 minutes. It was Mccormick that did anything in the second half. The rest of the game yeah that was bad too. Think Georgia in the first half bad.

Edit: I count 7 turnovers in the last 3 minutes. Two FTs missed in the last minute. Mostly whiffs from the field. 3 FT scored. Jared Harper missed two straight FTs at the 11 minute mark.

So we were too tired to beat new Mexico state

They were like 31-2 and well rested.
Their conference tournament had ended like a week before noon game on Thursday.

SEC needs to move the final to Saturday.

Getting out in round one on Thursday against a well rested, competent mid major is tougher than it sounds.

Nobody expects to hear Bruce say I want to tank that bitch. I expect him to play Broome little if at all, and give our guards some rest.
Assuming we finish the season 2-2 or better, this is what I want. The committee has shown year after year that they don't care what happens in our tournament. The only thing that gives me hesitation in that comment is the SEC has never been this strong, so that might make the results of the SEC tourney hold more weight with the committee.

We also got out rebounded 39-24 despite being larger than NMST! We had no legs.

I agree! The SEC is really screwing up not settling the tournament on Saturdays. If anything make less teams qualifiers for the tournament.

Sounds more like a focus effort issue

You're being illogical, just like the people Saturday in first half saying we had no legs. Then somehow we found them in the locker room and scored 53 points in the second half.

You can call it illogical and don't care. Secure the regular season and win the ones that matter.

I know well if we win the regular season and the tournament championship and get bounced early you are still going to call it a disappointing season. I think that is illogical too but that is another conversation.

They are not playing loose and mentally grinding because they know they are close to securing a championship. Pearl all but said that himself.

Well you're right about that. It will definitely be a disappointing season if we have one of the better regular seasons ever and then bow out early when it counts. This isn't 2017 anymore, Bruce has the program past measuring success in the regular season

Sure i can buy that, that's makes some sense. that's not the same at all as saying it's because we don't have the legs. The way we start games and answer runs though says to me it's lack of ability to maintain focus

Regular Season Championships count. So does the conference tournament. If you cant secure one you need to at least secure the other that way if for some reason we bow out early we still have hardware to point to. As you can see in the New Mexico state game, a storied run by a storied Auburn team can get bounced before they even get going. That's how chaotic March Madness is and why it is important to rack up hardware when you can.

Sure but 2 of the last 3 years we've been upset by a significant underdog in the first weekend. That can't happen again

Jared Harper fouled out, he also played as unclutch as he ever did while at Auburn...by a lot. He missed consecutive FTs as well. Our bigs were supposed to dominate and got dominated on the boards by a three point shooting team. I disagree.

Just by looking at SOG's projected board you could make a case that Auburn plays New Mexico or Texas in the round of 32. As good as we are if we are not up for Texas we will get our cheeks clapped. They already made the second half miserable once before. You need to get realistic.

Well I would expect our national championship caliber, senior/super senior laden/Bruce Pearl coached team to be able to get up for an NCAA tournament game. If that's unrealistic oh well.
