LBs on Current NFL Rosters (2016 Draft to Present)
LSU 8
Georgia 6
Bama 6
Tennessee 4
Auburn 0
You can make 1000 excuses, but the "best position coaches in the SEC" put players in the NFL.

quote:He's literally only had 2 classes of LB come through the school. The Tre Williams/Davis years (2 of the best LB we've had), and now the Britt/Koby/Pap class, all of which will be drafted. Also I just told you Deshaun Davis was drafted in the 6th round, so wherever you got your stat from is wrong.

I’m not trying to take sides. I appreciate both of the arguments. But putting people in the NFL is also a function of the protoplasm that you started with. Did TWill do the best with the players Gus got him/let him have? I don’t know.
But the fact is that the average star rating at the other schools was a lot higher than Auburn’s. Any successful HC is going to have recruiting as much of his process as development.

Oof. This doesn't scream "I've got coaches from across the country texting me about the Auburn job."

Ted Roof is the one in charge of our defensive hires and Chip Lindsey in charge of our offensive hires.
Are both of these guys still getting a check from Auburn?

Somehow we did the impossible and downgraded from Kodi Burns. We hired the Tory version of Kodi Burns. 6 years at his alma mater with just two years of coaching anywhere else. Not a single day of p5 experience.

So I'm just curious.. are we still in the sunshine grace period where we're not allowed to be critical of hires?

Serious question, because I know nothing about Troy football. Has this coach actually developed WRs in a passing game more sophisticated than ours? If not, then yeah, I don't see how this is much of an upgrade, which is mind-boggling.

Maybe these last hires will be a function of budget. I don’t know what the total budget for the new coaching staff is.
Maybe we spent all our jack on Harsin, Mason, and Bobo.
In other words, Kodi was just too expensive.

My wording was off on that post, I wasn't arguing that we haven't had a player drafted. Davis was drafted.
The fact remains and my point was that we do not have a LB on an NFL roster since TWill took over as LB coach in 2016.
We recruit top 10 talent. If top 10 talent is coached and developed properly, it translates to the NFL like at UGA, Bama, LSU, Tennessee (examples I cited earlier).
TWill is overrated by AU people and it is embarrassing to look at all the morons on Twitter shooting at Harsin demanding that he keep/hire him. KJ Britt has even joined in.
It doesn't look like Harsin is keeping him, it will be interesting to see where he ends up and how he does in the future.

Cornelius Williams WR coach. Most of this (long) bio lists his accomplishments as a player, not a coach.

CWill hire ain't bad...
Look at the pedigree.
Played for Propst at Hoover (also starred on MTV's Two a Days). Played for Blakeney at Troy. Coached under Neal Brown at Troy.
As a player and coach, all he has done is win and score a ton of points.
I'll give him a chance.

A couple of questionable hires by BH, but he will live and die by them. I just can't believe other names like Craig, McClendon, and Moorehead were mentioned then they go out and get Troy's version of Kodi.

The T-Will slander on here is hilarious. Our LB core has been the best it’s been in a long, long time because of T-Will. If Harsin gets another guy for the job, that’s fine, but let’s not pretend Travis isn’t a great coach

quote:You're right.. We recruit that talent, in major part because of TWill. The thing you're leaving out is how many different players have played for TWill during that time.. its been 3 or 4 years of Williams/Davis and then straight into 3 and 4 years of Britt/Pap,Koby. All of which will have either played or had a shot at the NFL. Its not that he's not putting them in a position to get to the league.. we're just had guys who had long careers at Auburn instead of just starting 1 or 2 years and jumping to the league.
