There needs to be some kind of precedent set for these bandwagon fans.
So.. now... Yep, Gus appears to have changed this year!!!!
And if so, it'll not be because of the bus riders, nor the AUFamily (or similar) crowd, nor the Lanier's of the world that were all lovey-dovey, silent, or overly respectful. It'll be because thinking people got tired enough to speak up LOUD in public.
And the forever bus riders need to sit in the back when the bus starts to fill back up.

Basically, perfect is the only acceptable thing. And that just is not going to happen.
There's a lot of room between perfect and where we are now. If we could comfortably sit at 10-2ish most seasons with some sec championships and playoff berths the tune would be a lot different around here. Literally noone is asking for perfection. There's a disconnect in your brain between what success is and what perfection is. You accused me of wanting perfection when I was albeit melting during the A&M game, when all I really asked for was less three and outs. There is a world that exists between your cozy 8-4 world and the world of perfection and that's where most of us want to be.

Alot of people are missing this. Is it a coincidence that Gus is being more transparent in PCs and opening his offense up after the shite show that last off season was? Nahh

ADHD and on his meds. This is the real Gus. I think I'll take a seat and enjoy the ride.

I think Gus can do more with less and take us through some incredible (orgasmic) highs.
Highs come from wins. What have we won with Gus as head coach outside from the SEC championship in 2013 and the West in 2017? And let's remind ourselves of how those seasons ended. With losses. With lows.

Allen Greene talks about talking to him, knowing he’s an introvert, and telling him to open up more.

It was an achievement just being in that situation. How did you feel about our final 4 run or CWS? Same?

In Gus’ tenure what games has he lost he shouldn’t have...emotion removed?
Don’t include bowl games where diva players gave minimal effort.
2018 UTx
2016 uga (injuries have to be considered so probably shouldn’t count)
2015 arkie
2014 A&M
We can cry about games like 2016 Clemson but IMO they were better.

We didn't expect to win either of those. Those are seen in a completely different light and the way those seasons and playoffs work out is a completely different dynamic. We did expect to win the natty in 2013 after being up how much at half? And while the Bama and UGA wins were alot of fun 2017 the season still had a stink on it bc of the Clemson and LSU losses that have Gus's name all over them. Those losses and him running KJ into the ground bc he's the only thing that made his broke offense go ruined what could've been a great season. It was a good season, Gus's second best, but we still had 4 losses and that says sooooo much.

That's awesome and says a lot about Allen Greene.

First off, we didn’t expect to win the NC game from the start. Even homer Charles Barkley picked FSU.
Secondly, if we “expected” to win at the half against FSU, I don’t see how you didn’t expect to beat Virginia when we were up 4 or 5 with like 8 seconds left. There are some irregularities sheltered by bias here.

KJ ran the ball a lot against stiff competition and it resulted in WINS. Would not want Kam Martin running then. I don’t blame Gus there.

Ok, I am going to pose this question to you because I have always respected your opinion. I asked it in a different thread and no-one answered.
Had Seth Williams not come back and caught the pass at the end of the Oregon game and the DB intercepted it, would you have the same feeling? Would Gus still be a changed man and you felt the same about things? It would have been the same calls, same game plan by Gus but in the end , our guy not caught it and the Oregon DB made a play to win the game. All that when Gus could have just positioned the ball in the middle of the field and let Carlson kick the FG to win the game?
Would there still have been multiple threads with Gus love and how he did such a good job with Nix, great play calling and being open in the presser with everyone.
Would Gus still be a "changed man" and are we all at Waffle House together?

Obviously he was the only option. If he didnt play KJ and let the others run the ball, no way we would have won and Gus would be criticized for "not putting the best guys on the field"
This all stems back to people just not liking the guy. Its just a witch hunt looking for something to dig him about. And that probably will not change. The opinion is just to burn it down and start over. That is the Auburn fan way. It always has been and it wont change because people use their emotions and not their heads

I hate stuff like watching a too thin lead vaporize while the 90% of the starters are out there in slow down mode. Instead allow the 2nds to go for the jugular and use their talents. Not perpetual runs up the middle using the same game plan as the 1st string. That doesn't even develop anyone.
Or
Him trying to win the recruiting war and ending up with players that don't fit his system. Believe that's one of your pet peeves too... QB's that don't fit what he does. Stidham for instance didn't have the arse to hammer it home inside the 10. He was a bandaid approach (not a fix) to the problem of not having the right QB on roster.
Or
Predictability. Losing while trying something that might work beats the hell out of watching another 3rd quarter of 3-n-out runs up the middle.
So yeah
I feel better seeing different stuff. More RB's. A better passing game. and a coach that'll open his mouth instead of being afraid to say anything at all. (What's not to like about: Early games, hell yeah, give me more time to get read for next weeks game (loose interpretation)).

You may have misinterpreted my question. My question was if we lose the Oregon game due to the risky pass from the true freshman instead of winning?
I personally think it would have been the biggest shite show we have ever seen on this board. All he needed to do was kick the FG and win. No need for the "back shoulder" pass to Seth which was very risky. I believe this board would have blown a fuse in Chickens site, the Auburn jet would get fueled up and the fan outrage would have been historic
I do agree with a lot of your points and the points of others who dont seem to think I do. Im actually more along with people than they think. Im just not ready to burn things to the ground like others are. I dont agree with a lot of things that Gus has done and is doing. I have been very vocal about that. But there will never be a coach here that we will agree with on most things. There is only one Nick Saban in College football and he is not coming to Auburn
I still dont like the offensive style we are running while Gus is in charge and I dont like how he has recruited to it. But it is working now and people are happy. I dont believe it will last.
A lot of people talking about him being open with the press but I really just dont give a crap about that. Its all coach speak, just in a different language. I dont feel closer to the program because he seems to be telling more. I do like the remark about the game times but thats a different story...

quote:Everyone loves a winner... so perhaps... that's just human nature. However just maybe, in this one case him not putting all his eggs in one basket (playing for a FG) might have been appreciated by a great number of fans. For instance - Mac going for two against Clemson is probably going to pay dividends in the long run and that ended up not so good at the moment.

And unfortunately coach speak is part of the job, we know it's coming, but at this level you expect to hear it using different words. It's nice not hearing the exact same terms/phrases over and over again. Ya got to feed the fans with something when they get hungry.

Different situation in my opinion. Mack could not win the game with the extra point and his team was gassed. He was also playing the #1 team and a chance to be the hero. Auburn on the other had could have won the game with a chip shot FG and elected not to take it over a risky play with a freshman QB in a game where we were expected to win by a large portion of the fanbase. I get what you are saying but with the history of Gus and Auburn fans, I do not think it would have been appreciated.
Its just the nature of things. Winning in the end is everything
