It's so crazy that schools are gonna have to hire portal recruiting staff just to keep up with it all. No way can the regular staff do this and HS recruiting too. Not enough time in the day.
I understand we do. There are some good interviews out there on the web with the "back room" staff like AK Mogulla our director of player personnel, one smart cookie.
Not just identifying them, but a whole other set of trips both official and unofficial as well. The young kids want the photo shoot, the transfers are all business.
Britton is a great example, forget the bells and whistles, that man would live in a cave and throw him meat once a week. But he spent four hours with Thornton discussing blocking schemes. He came from a passing school and wanted to show the scouts he could run block.
So he wanted to play in a bigger school, hopefully the SEC, show his skills in run blocking etc. He said when Western Kentucky came to Auburn to play, he already knew he was going to transfer his senior year, and when the eagle flew and 80,000 fans went crazy, he wasnt intimidated, he was saying.....I gots to play here this is what football is supposed to be.
So he came to Auburn, got some NIL money and in the process became all SEC. What a beautiful story to tell transfers.
The second piece of this is NIL imagine having to staff to negotiate 85 contracts on an annual basis AND all potential signees. As well as surveying, budgeting by position etc. And a whole other group running the donation side.

From what I’ve heard he’s almost priced himself out of college. Asking for 2.5 mill+
This is exactly what I have been saying. We could fill out the rest of our roster for that money.
Some of you must have been around when the Saints insisted on drafting Archie Manning when the team was horrible. He spent his whole career in a cast and the team sucked. He is now in his 70s but I read an article where a few years ago, in one five year period he had had 8 surgeries. Both knees replaced, his back fused in two places, his neck fused and various and sundry other things.
If we had all the other pieces in place and lacked one piece, maybe, but for fricks sake can we plug the holes in the boat before we spend all our money on a fancy bell.

Lets talk OL. So we lose four, depends on if Wade stays. We pick up Carter, hopefully Echols, and Senda (might as well count him in this class he has four years), and hopefully Seth Wilfred out of JC (with three years to play).
Looking promising for Scott and Bedford out of the portal.
Thats not a bad haul if it plays out that way. I dont think we get Favour Edwin at this point. Kinda pisses me off the Hood family found him, we recruit him and now he disses us.
Then it sounds like a lot heavier in the high school kids for 25.
Pretty impressive to improve you current performance while being able to add young talent at the same time.

May have e already been mentioned, but I just saw an article, but Auburn has reached out to freshman All-American OT Chase Bisontis (Texas A&M). The article said Auburn was one of o er 25 teams that reached out to him, so who knows what kind of shot we have.

Gerquan Scott (USM Transfer OG) to decide between us and Ole Miss in the next day or two

Recruiting services think he is a heavy lean to us.
Thornton has not missed in picking winners in the portal yet, and he seems to be getting very good players without the exorbitant price tags of some.

Solid pickup. You can scheme up some mismatches with LBers on him in the slot. He's not exceptionally fast (just judging from a couple videos from this season, he may can fly, but he wasnt just burning defenders), but he is quick in and out of cuts and has some great hands.

And, they’re the CB and LB that Auburn is after. So hopefully that means they’re next.
