4/5 new guys in the O-Line too. Their LT was the only returning starter.

If I may… to Jangs point. Let’s look at the entire body of work. 28 sacks sticks out like a sore thumb and that does not include penalties.
Yes he struggled but like RA he was subjected to indecision as well for most for at least half the season. But we saw the drops, incorrect routes, holding, jumping off sides.

Thorne has almost 9,000 yards from scrimmage in his career… 8,200 passing and about 800 rushing… and 73 total TDs…. all at the P5 level.

What is crazier is Jville talks to me as if Thorne still hasnt proven he can do what Ashford did in 2022. I dont know what Ashford did in 2022 but it must be special.

Look at his stats from Miss St through New Mexico State. Then look at sacks.
Great discussion guys. Thanks for keeping it civil.

Apparently they had 10 linemen that accumulated 150+ snaps in 2021 and all had 3 plus years of experience

In 2022, they had 7 OL, two of the 7 were walk ons. Big difference. They also lost multiple skill positiion players.

I disagree with your opinion and general bias.

He did worse than Ashford in 2022, yet yourself and others are on here trying to convince yourself that he’s way better than Ashford. The stats and results don’t back you up. I’m not saying either one needs to be the starter next year, and they won’t be if Freeze can help it. He’s in talks with at least one QB according to Cole Cublic.

Ashford was not a better qb than Thorne in 2022.

Y’all stop giving this guy attention

Thorne was fine after the rotating nonsense was put to bed. I think, too, that when Freeze started to get more involved in the play calling, Thorne looked more comfortable. (What CHF decides to do moving forward as far as his role in play calling and game planning plays a big role in the development t of whoever is playing QB going forward, but that's a different topic.)

But to only point to stats and try to judge his play is not going to give anyone the whole picture. You can't tell me that after the NMST and Bama games people came away saying, "Damn, Payton Thorne really cost us this game." The NMST game was an entire team loss. Everyone played like shite, but PT was actually our best player that day. And we all remember what cost the Bama game: A muffed punt by a backup and possibly the dumbest defensive call of any of our lifetimes. Even the UGA game. That came down to Bowers flipping his switch and doing whatever he wanted to our secondary.

Point is, it cannot be only about statistics. You will never get a full, clear picture using only stats.

Ashford 2022 stats: 1,613 passing, 710 rushing (started 9 games)

Nah, that came down to Simpson leaving the field with an injury and THEN Bowers doing Bowers things.

A 62% completion percentage QB is a lot more significant than a 49% if you are talking about throwing it 300-400 times which is hopefully what we do next year.

Less than 150 incompletions out of 300 passes= abandon the offense and do backyard ball.

But then again, Ashford has already played his last snap in the P5 and for good reason.

I’d rather have a QB that is a mid 50s percent completion that throws for around 220+ per game over one that throws 62% with a bunch of screens to pad their percentage that throws for less than 150 per game. But you do you.

We’ll see. We’ll also see if PT makes his last P5 start in the bowl game. I’m betting he has.

Robby averaged sub 50% and 150 yards a game throwing last year as the starter and went 3-6. In his 9 starts he had 7 games where he completed 50% or less of his passes.

Where are all of these imaginary screen passes you always mention?

Ashford cant even hold that jock strap. Dude was a 42% passer for 102 yards against Western Kentucky.

Respectfully and certainly not trying to start anything!!!!
Please reread my comments a bit more closely for they are in support of PT. The stats for him are solid considering the points I made related to line, receiver play. I agree with you sir. I think! Lol
