I am making my first ever pilgrimage Saturday to cheer our Tigers on against the Vols. I would appreciate any parking tips. Is there a preferred lot that has a shuttle back and forth to Neyland?

There's parking at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum. I think it's now $30 to park there but the price includes a Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) shuttle that takes you down to campus and takes you back after the game.
I also think KAT is running a shuttle for SEC games from the Old City area because of the number of bars/restaurants that have opened there in the last few years.
Other options would be:
-Try to find a place along Cumberland Blvd to park and walk Cumberland to Phil Fulmer and follow that to the stadium (would be about a mile walk each direction).
-Try to find parking around World's Fair Park or in the Market Square area and walk from there (would be between a mile to a mile and a half each way)
-Go on Ticketmaster and see if anyone is selling a parking pass. The last few years my UT alum wife has had a parking pass at the Ag Campus. UT runs shuttles from the outlying campus parking areas to the Circle Park area of campus which is a super short walk to the stadium.

Any general Knoxville bar/food recommendations? I'll be there Friday early afternoon.

It's been a year+ since we've been up there and we usually stay in West Knoxville with my MIL. A few off the top of my head:
Calhoun's On The River has great river views, especially if you can get a table right by a window. The food (BBQ) is serviceable but not Texas monthly fare. When we are there if we want bbq we go to Buddy's off Kingston Pike. It's counter service but good and not super pricey.
In the same area as Calhoun's is a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.
Ye Olde Steakhouse is a South Knoxville institution - I think opened in the 60s. It's the type of place people go for anniversaries and such.
Also in South Knoxville is Szechuan Garden. Wife's family swears it's the best Chinese in Knoxville.
Best burgers I have had up there is from a place to called Litton's in Fountain City. It's north of downtown.
The areas of downtown called The Old City and Market Square are the new cool places to go for restaurants and bars. If you watched Game Day this past week, the food they brought out was from Stock and Barrel in Market Square. About a block away is a Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen. They started in Asheville and have expanded across the southeast. The original was featured on Rachel Ray's show on Food Network about 10 years ago.
Cumberland Blvd aka The Strip used to be the place to go eat and drink before games. The last 5 years or so it has turned heavily into condos and chain places that cater to the students. Saloon 16, in the Graduate Hotel, is Peyton Manning's place.
