I watched JJ his senior year of high school completely embarrass and run all over an Auburn High School defense which has about half of its starters now playing DI football somewhere.
Saw that game. Watched the game the week before against Tri-County out of Georgia. JJ can definitely run the ball. He can throw, with accuracy, rolling out. He can throw the deep ball and he can throw the touch pass. He was the one guy I have been most excited to see. He reminds me a lot of Dameyune Craig. He doesn't have the quickness of Nick......but I believe he will be a better QB than Nick.

The concern for JJs running ability just shows how great of a QB Nick Marshall was - every ones concerned that dimension is gone. Having said that, JJ is going to own most AU records including a top 10 rushing record.

Nick had amazing instincts and vision... He will be missed, but JJ will be fine running the ball.

quote:I just went to auburntigers.com to refresh my memory, and I was correct in my recollection of DC's career: he was NOT a runner, certainly not in the Cam/Marshall mold.
He reminds me a lot of Dameyune Craig.
DC could scramble, he could punch it in from a few yards out - but he was not a threat to take it the distance on any given play like Cam or Nick. I don't know if JJ has that kind of skillset..
Opposing defenses respected DC's ability to elude pressure and get something out of a busted play, but they didn't have to game plan for his running. If JJ forces them to have to account for his legs, we could have a special season on offense.

JJ didn't run at QB in high school because of basketball. Started getting carries his senior year after he committed to Auburn the previous spring and had like 100 carries for 700+ yards or whatever.

I don't think JJ has the kind of speed to take it to the house either. He doesn't need it. If he can be accurate with the ball, teams will have to respect that and not load up the box. That will help the running game. It will also open up the field for him to run if things break down in the pocket.

I think he is faster than people give him credit for. As quick as marshall? Probably not.
Those are different to me.

JJ has some wheels. He's gonna surprise a lot of people this year.

If JJ winds up being anything at all like DCraig in college, then we are in for a great season. Craig was the ultimate warrior. Could put the whole team on his back and not be denied. I wonder if JJ is as shifty as Dameyune was but I do think JJ has an NFL arm.
If Johnson has the leadership and warrior aspects that Craig had, its gonna be FAP city around here. Might have to lay in a case of lotion.

Will we get notes? or is it closed?

I would think it is closed. I am sure we will get some morsels from the players and coaches.

We came *that close* to winning our first SECCG in 1997 because Dameyune Craig single-handedly carried us to the brink of victory against a very good Tennessee team led by Peyton Manning.
Any semblance of help from the rest of that team we would have won that game. And even then, if memory serves, we had a couple of key drops by receivers that *still* would have won us the game if they'd caught the pass(es) that DC put right in their hands.

Craig was the ultimate warrior. Could put the whole team on his back and not be denied.
Unfortunately that also meant that when DC had a bad day (like against MSU in '97) we were effectively shut down. I don't think that will be a problem for us this year.

The video board will be on for today's scrimmage.

Aubietron is so big that it makes the stadium look small

I wonder if they would air live feeds on it of the scrimmages. Seems like it would help the players not get distracted by it
Posted on 8/10/15 at 11:15 am to The Nino
I would hope they do that. If any of you are bored, and they are showing the live feed, you could probably head up to the top of sky Bar and get a pretty good view of the scrimmage.

They aren't. But the scoreboard sure does look nice.
