The national narrative next year will be that Auburn's offense, seemingly without a dual threat QB, won't have the firepower to keep them in games with a middling DC from USF. We will start unranked, with most projections having us between 7-6 and 4-9.
National championship confirmed.

WKU has #1 total offense in country. Their QB is #1 in total passing in country and one of their receivers is #2 in total receiving yards.
Unless we see this same production in the SEC, I'm not sure I care how many yards USF gave up.

As bad as the season was, all the whiney-arse fans are making it worse. They are all such brilliant football minds that I am surprised they have time to be here, since I'm sure most are consultants with NFL teams.

Mark Murphy said he has been told to expect Allen to be offered and accept the DC position today.

He's usually very conservative on making predictions like that isn't he?
As for my thoughts on Allen, it's not a home run hire but it's not a bad hire either.

He only says things like that if he knows for a fact that it's a done deal. Mark Murphy is absolutely the most reliable and credible person that covers AU.

Yeah that's what I thought.
So anybody know how good of a recruiter he is?

Seems like he would have a lot of recruiting connections in florida. Coached high school ball there then ole miss and usf

I am sure hiring a guy that gave up 45 points to Western fricking Kentucky will be fine. He won't face better coaching and talent in the SEC.
and he definitely wouldnt have more talent, better support and better facilities here either. we could do this all day and it would still be just as dumb as it is now. not saying it'd be a good or bad hire. just saying this comparison wont ever work. I'd be kinda meh on Allen but I also have heard several that would be MUCH worse.

I'm not sure about his recruiting, but as seen the past couple of weeks, the job Rodney and Lance have done has been outstanding.

What's OM fans opinion of the guy?

Would rather have LT, but just want someone.

I heard they love him

The guy has been a DC for one year, and it was an average season. Add to the equation he will work for Gus, who wants nothing to do with the defense. He is not known as a knock out recruiter. Lots of red flags. With that in mind, I understand we may not have many options.

My bag of fricks to be given is already gone. I can neither confirm nor deny my absolute excitement for this good old boy from the Hugh Freeze coaching tree.
I hope whoever we get can recruit.

OM fans hated to see him go. And I noticed their defense this year (while still very good) seemed to be missing something.

This about the best we can hope for at this point. We aren't getting an elite DC to come here with a HC on a hotseat. Plus if we are relying heavily on the defense next year it probably means Gus is gone anyway.
