It would make sense for the AD to leave before a new head coach is hired (if Gus is indeed on the hot seat), otherwise you have JJ hiring a new coach and then leaving himself to leave the new AD with a coach he didn't hire.
But then again AU doesn't always do things that make sense.

I really doubt the delay has anything to do with the DC
