I remember Pat Dye doing an interview about a year before he passed away. The interviewer brought up something about when we hired Gus and Dye said "I really like Gus but the coach over at Georgia (Kirby) was the guy I wanted when we got Gus." The interviewer replied "Kirby played at Georgia and coached at Alabama. That's Auburn's 2 main rivals. If he came to Auburn, he would've just left as soon as Georgia came calling."
Pat quickly replied "I played at Georgia and coached at Bama and I never left Auburn when Georgia came calling, and trust me, they came calling a couple times."
Coach Dye shut the interviewer up quick on that comeback. Gosh I miss that man!!!!!
