I dont know about the BYU national title.

Auburn playing in the game isnt for the entertainment value for America its for the Auburn players and Auburn fans.

I am confident in Derrick Nix, Durkin, and Ashton picking off some blow hard from the AAC and getting Cobb his 1000 yards rushing.

With a completely new staff it would be a shite show if we played a bowl game. Learning a new offense in a week? I’d rather not watch that.

I admit the logistics of cost and coaches dont make sense.

Throw the ball out there and and let our offense run Nix's offense.

Would you rather a new coach spend time on the road , recruiting? Or taking time to game plan a 5-7 team to play in a universally acknowledged worthless bowl game?

Because that's what it'd be, should Auburn be offered.

I dont want the new coach involved at all. He can watch from the sidelines or the booth

Not involved in the game plan, but if he's traveling there, he's 'involved'.

Inconveniencing the new HC for three hours isn't an issue and if it is he might as well be bitching about his office furniture

Depends on if there's an offer to play, first. Then where it is. I doubt it'll be too far, but if he's going to take time to show up at the stadium, it's a full day, not merely 3 hours.

Inconvenience is not the worst thing in the world. He makes 7.3 million. He can tough it out for the players and fans. He can draw conclusions about players from that experience as well.

Is that the best use of his time? For Auburn? Better than traveling to meet with recruits?

Better than assembling a staff?

Because if it is, then do that.

Cant say I find this surprising.

Current AD also took a home game from the fans.

I don’t understand this line of thinking. I would think that the extra practices would be invaluable. Plus, it would be Deuce playing, so Ashton could keep his redshirt.

not really

how many of the new staff will be in place in time for bowl practice?

defense might benefit since that side of the ball would be relatively solid, but we wouldn’t be running an offense even remotely similar to the one they will be learning in the spring, so practice time would be pretty much a waste

it would also unnecessarily force the issue for players who are on the fence about portaling - they would likely have to decide on opting out

plus we would likely be facing a team that had its coaching staff intact and would be far better prepared, leading to only our 4th 8-loss season in the last 70 years

declining the invite makes sense to me

The complicated logistics is why the team would rather pack it in for the year. It's too easy to listen to outsiders say no you didn't deserve that game. The last hurrah would be advantageous to Auburn but nobody wants to think outside the box.

We already have a new hope and a new team since the Vanderbilt game. Pay Nix a salary for the extra game and let's see how we stack up against teams weaker than Vandy or Bama. Let Deuce get more reps. Give the fans an extra game that we havent had for a half decade.

Our staff can just as easily go the Deion route and say look I know some of yall want to leave so we are going to play everyone and the support staff will cut the game film up for yall to distribute to your prospective teams.

Loser's mentality. Just admit you'd rather watch the hallmark channel.

I saw that too. That’s a big improvement.

Why would Nix do that? Isn't that guy in the process of trying to find a permanent job elsewhere? Wouldn't his new employer want him out recruiting for them and not coaching Auburn in a bowl game?
