The portal changed things in terms of physical maturity of players you could bring in, and for schools with a gap here and there to fill, it has been great. It is not an overnight fix for one entire missing recruiting class that will produce the same results as having had that class on campus the prior year or two.

You are going to be taking in water trying to build a “from high school “ class every year and you are going to have many holes that require the portal to fill as players you count on leave for more money/playing time/exposure somewhere else. I strongly suspect this will become evident when the portal window re-opens.
Recruiting is a much bigger game now and you can’t go at it like you used to.

Never claimed any of that, but by the same token if you have to consistently get 20 out of the portal, you are doomed. How many portal players did Texas, Georgia and Ohio State take this year?
Texas - 12
Georgia - 11
Ohio State - 12
They took those smaller numbers because they have built with HS players.
AU took 18
OM took 19
The worst part is that you usually only have those guys for 1-2 years. AU loses 18 too this year, but OM loses 28, ALL out of their two deep. A few of our portal guys did not crack the two deep.

True. And I dont understand why Hugh is also failing at bringing in High school oline guys. We know it was Gus's fault, then it was Harsins fault and now its Hughs fault.
