I guess I’m dumb. I’m certainly not the football expert that many on this site are. I never got paid to make decisions involving football at any level so I recognize that I am wrong on many things.
It just looks like to me that analytics are more powerful with more data and less variables.
It’s a tool, but going for it against UGA is different than going for it against UAB.
Going for it with more talent is more likely to be successful than going for it with less talent. Going for it with Victor Riley or Marcus McNeil at LT may be easier then going for it with Percy Lewis at LT.

We can agree to disagree but two major problems with your take.
1. You're disagreeing with yourself
2. Judging whether or not the best decision was made based solely on the outcome as a philosophy is not a good way to operate whatsoever.
For example firing Gus was absolutely the right decision even though it hasn't worked out because made poor decisions after it. Going for it was the right decision, failing to get on the same page to run a play with a chance of success doesn't change that

You can account for that with analytics.
People view analytics as “Analytics says go for it on 4&5 or less everytime”. Which can be true when you look at 4&5 or less against every team. But Analytics can also say the opposite. Because you have analytics against all SEC teams. Or against certain SEC teams. Or certain P5 teams. Which comes out with different outcomes.
You can make analytics anything you want. It’s basically the same as how make decisions in your brain but with less bias. The only problem is you can’t have all the information for every situation on the fly in the game. But you can know what they say for situations you’re likely to be in.
I just don’t get the anti-analytics arguments and I think they come from misunderstanding what analytics are. There’s also still room for intuition and instinct while using analytics.

Maybe I’m just weary of the TV analyst or play by play guy saying, “the analytics say” when they really don’t have team by team, down by down, distance by distance, score by score on the game they are calling.
I don’t disagree with you. Studying situational football is a necessity to give your team the best chance to win the game.

Regardless of what the "truth" might be regarding the call and execution, i would think that Thorne, Freeze, Hunter et al would have had a discussion about what the story going forward would be so that would all tell the same story....
It's a bad look that they can't even agree on how it happened...

Hoke keeps saying they did all three agree on what happened. But his explanation is apparently behind a pay wall so…
